A day in the life of a Business Student at the University of Southampton!

Hello everyone,

I'm Akshita, and I will start my second year studying BSc Business Management with Placement at the University of Southampton this September!

Many freshers often wonder what a typical day as a university student would be like! So, I thought it would be fun to share my experience of the first year -

8:00 - Rise and Shine!
I usually wake up around 8 am and start my day with a quick stroll through my Instagram and a good healthy breakfast. I pack my bag and get ready to go to campus.

9:00 - On the way to campus!
I leave for campus at different times on different days depending on when my first lecture is. On most days of the week, I would leave around 9-10 am. I live about a 30-minute walk or a 15-minute bus ride away from campus. I usually try to walk to campus in the morning, as it is the perfect time to listen to some music or talk to friends. Sometimes, I take the bus when I am running late.

10:00 - 16:00 - Lectures
Don't worry, I don't have back-to-back lectures from 10 am to 4 pm! I typically have 2-3 things on my timetable every day with breaks between lectures. During these breaks, I usually work a shift on campus (there are plenty of opportunities to get a job on campus) or go to the library to study. I sometimes even finish around 2 pm and then have the rest of the day to relax and catch up on work! The professors always find a way to make the lectures interesting. We discuss real-world case studies and have plenty of opportunities to ask questions!

I would also go to the fun and interactive events taking place on campus! You can always find something happening that you can get involved in.

16:00 - 18:00 - Relax and Study
After I finish lectures, I go back home and relax for a while. I would usually catch up on some university work or go work a shift on campus.

18:00 - Gym
After a productive day at university, it's time to head to the gym! The Jubilee Sports Centre at the university is top-notch and has the perfect facilities for a cardio session or for lifting weights.

20:00 - Dinner and Hang out with friends!
After gym, I would go cook with my flatmates or sometimes even go out for dinner. We would talk about our day, play games or watch a movie. We sometimes organise Pot Luck dinners as it is a great way to try different cuisines without spending much.

22:00 - Watching Netflix and then off to bed!

And that is a typical day in my life, I hope you enjoyed reading it! Please feel free to ask any questions and share your personal experiences.

All the best,
