Thank you

Hi there,

Yes, you can receive both loans at the same time, that's fine.

Thanks, Graeme

Hello again, I am also considering an undergraduate degree in Counselling and Psychotherapy instead of a Masters. I have been advised by the college offering the degree that I am not eligible for an Advanced Learner's Loan in addition to the student loan but that I can apply for a Higher Education loan. On the SFE website, I can only see HE short course loans. Is this the same thing? (obviously the degree is not a short course.) Thank you in advance 🙂

Hi there,

Can you confirm the full name of the course, what university will you attend and what is the duration of the course? Is this for the 2024/25 academic year?

Thanks, Drew

Hi Drew,
Yes, it is Warwickshire College Group (W25) Counselling and Psychotherapy Undergraduate Degree (P/T) I have been offered a place starting September 2024. The course will be a minimum of 3 years, depending on fulfilment of placement hours. I am a mature student and already have a degree,(if that is relevant in this case.)
Thank you 🙂

Hi MazzyStar1971,

What is the name of the other course you are considering? Are you looking to study 2 courses simultaneously and find out if you can get funding for both of these?

Thanks,
Calum

Hi Calum,
No just one course! The other is a Masters in Counselling and Psychotherapy at Warwick University. I haven't decided which to accept yet.
Thank you

Hi there,

The course you mentioned - the part-time Counselling and Psychotherapy - is showing as an exception on our system.

So, this means you'll be entitled to funding regardless of your previous study.

Thanks, Graeme

Yes, however, I have also been advised by the college that I can apply for a Higher Education Loan as well as a student loan for fees. Apparently the Advanced Learner's Loan is not linked with funding for this course but a Higher Education Loan is. Are you able to clarify what the Higher Education Loan is? Thanks 🙂

Hi there,

If your course is a Higher Education Short Course, then this isn't something we deal with. You would need to contact the Higher Education Short Course Loan Team on 0300 100 0085 .

Thanks,
Claire

Hi, It isn't a short course. It is a 3 year degree course so I am confused by what my University refers to as the 'Higher Education Loan'
Thank you 🙂

Hi MazzyStar1971,

if it isn't a Higher Education Short Course then we aren't sure what the university are referring to either. I would advise speaking to them to see if they can clarify this.

Thanks,
Calum
