Car hire add on

Hi,

I've recently had my car insurance renewal which shockingly hasn't gone up, but whilst I've been reviewing my documents, there's an option for a car hire if it's stolen or written off.

But isn't that covered by courtesy car covered in the premium? So if any of those eventualities did happen then I would get a courtesy car anyway or is that if my car is involved in a road traffic accident?

And would car hire cover be applicable if I happened to get my car written off due to an accident that was my fault?

Also, why is being unemployed affect your insurance? Surely it's good because you're not adding miles driving to work and back.

Thanks!
