I've seen that you've received advice in another clearing thread. If you want to be considered for other courses at your firm and insurance unis, make sure you act before the results embargo starts at 2 pm today. Come back and let us know how you did on results day.

hey- sorry to jump in on the conversation- does that mean unis have a-level results now? im a Scottish student and durham have held my offer as a near miss and have said they will update me pending a-level results. does this mean I will also not hear from them? or as they have results I could hear from them at any point now.

I would need to have it as my firm choice. according to others its not realising any more rooms at the minute as its prioritising those who have guaranteed accom- which its why I think this will change on results day. im struggling with lots of different possible outcomes over this next week and which one is best to plan for. I think I need to make a choice as to how badly I want to go to durham but I have no gut feeling on it which isn't helping haha

You've got three options as I see it:

A) Continue as you are, in limbo, it may well turn out good in the end. But it's an unknown.

B) Ditch Durham now, firm KCL and apply for accommodation tomorrow morning. Start looking at backup accommodation options and prepare for life definitely at KCL.

C) Look for other courses in Clearing now, find one you like with accommodation options and ditch both Durham and KCL for them.

Talk with your family about which of the above you are best doing.

They’ll be in the process of receiving them now but you won’t get any update until AL results day due to the UCAS embargo period.

hey- was wondering if you knew anything about clearing open only to international applicants? does this change at all or is there no chance to get into these courses as a home student?

Clearing is available to students who have their results. International students, and those who took a gap year, will therefore typically be able to access Clearing before home students - who need to wait for SQA or JCQ results day before they're in a position to apply via Clearing.

If a course has vacancies but only for International applicants - that is exactly what it means, no vacancies for Home (UK) applicants.

Unis will update any Clearing vacancies on their websites on Weds eve / Thurs am - but again, check whether its open to UK applicants or for International only before you call.

sorry for not being clear- I have my sqa results as results day was earlier in the week- I was wondering why some of the courses are open only to international students and if this is something that could change on or after a-level results day or if its closed to home students for good

Well, it could be for a variety of reasons. However, the cynic in me would remind you that the tuition fees paid by international students are significantly higher than home students, so it wouldn't be surprising if unis prefer to fill a course with such candidates for that reason.

The situation could well change on (or just before) A level results day, as the uni will then have a better idea of many offer-holders met (and missed) their conditions, and so how many places they have available.

Money.

They will have set an ideal number of Internationals per course to subsidise your Home fees.

Unis wont update anything on their websites until Wednesday evening at the earliest - simply because that's when they will have processed everything and worked out exactly what vacancies they actually have.

Hi, ive unfortunately missed my durham AAA offer by 1 mark (awaiting appeal result). they have put my offer on hold pending results day for a-level. what's the likelyhood they still let me in? there is another course very similar to mine in which the requirements is AAB, would they maybe offer me this instead? trying to weigh up options- if anyone has any experience with this it would be very helpful!

It really depends how competitive your course and uni is, they might let you in with AAB but if they find someone who got the AAA grades they are looking for by someone in clearing you may not get the offer even if you are 1 mark away, best thing to do now is hope your result is appealed, if your B is in a more subjective subject like English Lit then you have a very good chance of being awarded that additional 1 mark you need.

thank you! funnily enough it is in English but the sqa don't have very good reputations in awarding upgrades hence my hesitance to wait for my appeal to come through in sept! I know my course is open to international clearing rn so hoping it may open to home student on results day or to alternatively try and get a place on that course I know I meet the standards for.
Short answer is that they might, but not even they will know until they finish processing AL results.

Hi there,

Clearing is a great opportunity that allows you to secure a university place if you haven’t yet, or if your circumstances have changed. This year clearing opened on 5th July and runs until 17th October, so you have plenty of time to explore your options.

At the University of East Anglia we help many students through Clearing, offering a range of degree courses that cater to different interests and goals. UEA is a fantastic choice if you’re looking for a place to grow individually, intellectually, and socially. The supportive community and excellent facilities make it an ideal place to start your university journey. You can find more info here: https://www.uea.ac.uk/study/clearing

If you have any questions or need more information, feel free to ask!

Best of luck!
