Business or healthcare?

Not sure which field I want to do my masters in. Currently studying MSc Occupational Therapy (pre-reg) and HATE IT. Considering international management and business, or MSc Nutrition in practice or social work.

Anyone studied/work in these fields that can help deliver some useful insight?

This is silly.

Let's go through this properly:

1.

What specific job do you want?

2.

Does the job specifically require a degree?

3.

If so, does it need to be approved by a specific professional body?

4.

If so, do you have an undergrad that meet those requirements already?

If you want to go into academic research, which specific field do you want to study?

Doing a master's for the sake of doing a master's is just silly (to put it lightly). If you don't need it in industry and you don't intend to go into academia, you don't really have any business doing a master's.

A master's in business is generally not useful for roles in business. No business will either value your master's for jobs or promote you because of your master's. If you don't intend to go into academia or teaching (if you don't have a business undergrad), this isn't a degree you should be doing.

I am asking specifically for those who are working or studying in these fields to provide some insight on their course and jobs. I’m not asking for anyone to call my post ‘silly,’ so please refrain from saying that. Each to their own, you are entitled to your own opinion, but if it’s hurtful towards someone who is asking a genuine question, you should think twice.

To clarify, I am interested in Business and marketing roles preferably those which will allow international credibility. I have been advised by my university to consider this course, (as my undergraduate is in counselling and MH, completely different I know) and Soeech and Language Therapy and Social work. My lecturers and advisors have specifically recommended me these courses. Now my question is which is better for work/life balance and job security, and potential working abroad opportunities.

Sorry if you don’t mind me asking what do you hate about your OT course and did you do shadowing before it?

We were thrown into exams with no prior knowledge of what would actually be on the exams. There was no prep at all. We were actually told our exam would be in second year, but suddenly it changed to in just a couple weeks. Also lectures weren’t really effective, at least for me and my peers. They had way too much information on them; and we didn’t have enough time to process anything. I didn’t have the opportunity to shadow before hand so that didn’t help; and we had no placement prep either. Essentially the whole course could have been useful had they actually taught us anything effective or worth using to build a career.

Thank you for answering. Oh that sucks 😕 I’m worried that ppl have been saying this about OT courses. Does this uni start with a B by any chance….
