urgent!! can i apply to uk universities without ielts as an int student?

hello!
i'll be applying for medicine by this oct but have not done my ielts (and initially planned to take sometime february next year?) is it still possible for me to apply for uk universities without my ielts, and maybe give my ielts results next year or maybe when i get my actual a level results? i feel really stupid for not doing it earlier and i don't really want to do it this year..

If you are made an offer, that will include details of the acceptable English qualifications for that University, and you would have until August to achieve that. You are not required to have passed IELTS etc before applying.

ahh so ielts is only required once i've received the offer from the universities and not when i'm applying?
also, do you mean august next year before the first semester starts?

Hey there , I am an international student studying at DMU and as stated above you can put through your application prior to completing your IELTS but to meet the conditions of your offer if you receive one you will need to then submit your official IELTS certificate . Alternatively you can submit another certificate that is equivalent to IELTS, these are different in each country .
If you would like to process an application at DMU , our applications are still open to international students and you can call us on +44 (0)116 257 7000 or WhatsApp us on 07970 655 800 to discuss your options and help you with the application process .
I hope this helps a little and if you have any other questions feel free to ask.

They are applying for MEDIICINE and for 2025 entry so begging them to apply to DMU through Clearing really does make your University look even more desperate than usual.

Yes - you would have until August 2025 to provide your English Language results.

Sorry , you feel that way @McGinger 💕. Just incase you are not aware, we offer a range of Health care and science related degree's some of which are pathways to medicine. I am an international student and study at DMU , all I have to share is based on my experiences and the information I provided is simply if they would like to consider studying where I do.
In future it would be great if you added some helpful information to input to the conversation. Hope you have a lovely day ahead !😁

The point being made is that clearing options for this year are not likely to be of interest for a prospective med applicant for next year. They may not even have results this cycle.

That's ignoring the fact that most 'pathways to med' are a waste of time unless our OP wants to go into some allied profession, which is a bit of a stretch from a straightforward IELTS question.

The vast, vast majority of unis do not require you to have an IELTS (or other accepted English test) at the point of applying. Off the top of my head I can't think of any that do ask for it early. Once you have whittled down your 4 med options, just double check their websites regarding English requirements to make 100% sure, but in most cases you'll just get an English condition with a deadline if you are sucessful.

For many UK universities they might have a time limit on how "current" an IELTS result needs to be to be acceptable.
Generally this will be 2 years before the start of the course - so if you're applying for medicine in October 2024 for entry in Sept/Oct 2025 that would be fine to already have your IELTS result. BUT if you had an issue with getting your visa on time or a personal reason meant you needed to defer to start in Oct/Sept 2026 then there's a risk that a pre-Oct 2024 IELTS wouldn't be considered current enough.

For that reason a lot of universities would recommend or prefer applicants to only take their IELTS in the spring/summer before they're due to start their course. It means that if things don't go to plan and you have to wait an extra year to start then you don't risk your IELTS being out of date.

Sorry for jumping in but what do you write on your application then if you don't have IELTS but planning on getting it? As I was planning on sitting the exam next month and applying in the same month but I'd rather take my time for it if I don't need to get it before applying.

If you’re not 100% sure when you will sit your IELTS then don’t list it in your education section.
Ask your referee to mention that you are planning to take IELTS after applying but don’t have a set date yet

That's interesting, and it make sense as if I don’t get selected my IELTS certification will be expired by the time I apply again. How do unis decide you're suitable for interview ? Is it just based on personal statement then? Do I need to mention I'm currently doing an Access course? Thanks!
