Master's Loans and EUSS change

Hello,

I am an undergraduate student currently in a Integrated Masters degree. I have been thinking about changing into a Bachelors degree to apply to a standalone Masters degree starting September 2025.

I have pre-settled status until October 2025, and I intend to apply for a settled status (for which I should be eligible with no issues) as soon as I can, which will be mid September 2025.

I have several questions:
1. Considering the following definition from the Government's website regarding eligibility for a Master's Loan:

"You may be eligible if you’re an EU national, or a family member of an EU national, and all the following apply:

you have settled or pre-settled status under the EU Settlement Scheme (no restrictions on how long you can stay)

you’ve normally lived in the UK, the EU, Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Switzerland or overseas territories for the past 3 years (this is also known as being ‘ordinarily resident’)

you’ll be studying at a university or college in England"

Am I eligible for a Masters Loan? I have a pre-settled status but it says "no restrictions on how long you can stay" and by definition, until I can apply for a settled status I do have an end date on my pre-settled status (October 2025). However, it gets even more confusing as per default, my pre-settled status will be extended for 2 years, around 1/2 months before is due to expire.

2. Considering my Master's Loan application would be done before the course starts (i.e. when my pre-settled status is still due to end in October 2025), could my application to the Loan be declined on the basis that my pre-settled status will end before the degree does?

3. If I am able to get a Masters Loan, how would I update my EUSS status to SF in order to confirm that I am compliant and eligible for a student loan despite my status change?

Can anyone please help with this?

Thanks!
Hi leonorgato,

If you have pre settled status you will be eligible to apply for a Postgraduate Loan for your Masters course. The application will not be declined if your pre settled status expires. You don't need to update us that your status has changed from pre settled to settled status.

Thanks,
Calum

Hi Calum,

I am sorry for insisting, but are you sure I don't need to update anything? The reason that I asked how to do it (in my original post) I called in the Postgraduate Loan Office in the past to ask about the loan and they told me I had to change details as soon as I changed status in order to insure I remain eligible.

Thank you!
Hi leonorgato,

When you apply for the Postgraduate Loan, you need to confirm your eligibility anyway by providing your share code and Home Office letter. If your status changes, you wouldn't necessarily need to update this, as you would already have been approved with your previous status.

Thanks, Clare

Hi Clare,

Thank you for your reply.

How do I go about informing student finance from the change from my Integrated Masters to a Bachelors programme? I start Year 3 in September. I looked online but the form for changes seems to only cover changes in degree (as in doing different degrees), and not changes to the duration/qualification gained.

Thank you!

Hi there,

At the moment, are you entitled to the Tuition Fee Loan only, or do you also get the Maintenance Loan?

Thanks, Graeme

Hi Leonor, is your application for 24/25 already approved and have you had your entitlement letter sent to you? Thanks, Jason

Hi Jason,

Yes, I’ve had everything already approved for this year!
Hi leonorgato,

You would ask the university to send a Change of Circumstances through to us to confirm that it is not the integrated masters version of the course that you are attending. You would then just apply for the Postgraduate Loan on your account for the stand alone masters for the relevant academic year.

Thanks, Clare
