Apply for means tested maintenance loan without getting the loan

Hi guys

I have applied for the tuition fee loan and the basic maintenance loan and my application has already been confirmed. I now want to also apply for the means tested maintenance loan as I need to in order to receive my uni bursary, however I don't want to receive any maintenance loan. How do I apply for the means tested maintenance loan and how long will this take? Will it affect my tuition fee loan?

Thanks

Hi there. If you don't want to receive any Maintenance Loan (ML), you need to complete a Maintenance Loan Request Form (MLRF) and request '£0' for the ML on here.

We will also require a non-income assessed to income assessed form (NMT to MT).

If you have parents (if you are under 25) or a partner (if you are over 25) then we will require a PFF2 form from them, where they provide the household income.

We can only send some of these forms via email, so you would need to contact us directly to request these as we can't do this over social media. They can all be uploaded to your account once completed. Thanks, Leah.

Hi, thanks for your reply.

Sorry I was a bit unclear. I want to receive the basic amount of maintenance loan (£3790) which I applied for originally, but didn't want to receive more as I think I will be eligible for much more due to my household income. Do I still need to complete the MLRF form?

How long will it take for these to be processed and will it affect my tuition fee loan as I am starting uni on 23 Sep 2024?

For the NMT to MT form it says to send it by post, or can I still upload this to my account? I can't add my signature on the form, any way of getting around this?

Can I upload the PFF2 form on my student finance account?

Hi Salma06,

You will still need to complete the forms that my colleague outlined above, you can specify on the MLRF form exactly what amount of maintenance loan you would like to receive.

These forms will take around 25 working days to process based on current timescales.

These forms can be uploaded through your online account, they do not need to be posted.

Thanks,
Calum

Hi,

I wanted to ask a quick question. I can't sign the NMT to MT form. Can I leave it blank? Or is there a way of getting around this?

Hi Salma, if it's digitally uploaded to your account then yes, it will be accepted without the signature. Thanks, Jason

Hi there,

The forms can both be uploaded online and the timescale is an estimated 29 working days. These will not affect your Tuition Fee at all.

If the forms are uploaded online we do not require a signature.

Thanks,
Ross
