Is it better to learn manual or automatic?

Ive been told that there more automatic cars now and that manual cars are becoming less and less. Even vans are automatic now so do you think its better to learn automatic since its 2024 and manual seems to becoming a thing of a past. What do you guys think?

What do you prefer to do - drive manual cars or automatic cars.

If you want to only drive automatic cars then learn to drive in a automatic car only as if you pass your driving test in a automatic car you'll only be able to drive automatic cars.

Learning to drive in a manual car gives you the best of both once you pass your driving test.

It will be quite a few years yet before all cars will be automatic only.

Remember that at the end of the day it's your choice of what type of driving licence you want to have. I would go for manual driving licence and then you can drive both automatic and manual cars.

Manual cars are easy to learn and drive from a manual car, just remembering that you don't change gears with clutch.

Manual definitely. Even if you don’t end up driving manual cars it’s just useful to have a manual license just in case. Your automatic car could brake down and they could give you a manual courtesy car. It’s better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it.

It's definitely a personal preference. As stated above if you learn and pass in an automatic, that's all you'll be able to drive. Now, if you're like me and have the coordination of bambi on ice (10 lessons in a manual and still couldn't not stall!) Simplifying it for myself made things a hell of a lot easier, I've been learning automatic for just over a year, and now I'm getting around to booking my driving test (passed theory first time) 🙂 best of luck in your decision making.
