Hi Hkkkkkkkj,

If you are unable to send your identity and residency evidence to confirm your eligibility, the only other option would be to request a Home Office check to confirm your status. You can request this by uploading a cover letter from yourself to your account by advising that you have exhausted all other evidence and that you require this check. Home Office checks can take approximately 30 working days.

Hi Clare should I call the home Office and inform them or write a letter to student fiananfe explaining the situation and to check with the home office
Hi Hkkkkkkkj,

You would upload the cover letter to your Student Finance England account to request that we conduct a Home Office check as you are not able to provide the evidence to confirm your status.

Hi Clare I did this and even posted the cover letter to student fiance and urged for a home office check I got an email today saying they cannot go through my evidence as it is only copies even though I explained the entire situation in the cover letter

Hi I spoke to someone from student finance today and I was told that I need to provide an original document obviously considering my circumstances I do not have any original documents and explained that I wrote a cover letter explaining this and asked for a home office check.I was advised to send an old passport which I do not have however I do have my old original BRP card which was “leave to remain” I’m not sure if I can send this as proof and if it will be accepted as my BRP now is an indefinite leave to remain which entitles me to student fiannce I’m not really sure where to go from here I got into my firm and start on the 23rd of septemeber However will not be able to go if I don’t get approved for finance

Hi there,

Just to clarify, we can do a Home Office check to prove your status, but we still need proof of your identity.

So, right now you have an expired BRP, is that right?

Thanks, Graeme

Okay, thanks - there are some cases in which we can accept an expired BRP card.

So, we'd recommend posting that to us as soon as you can: please include a short letter confirming that you're unable to provide valid ID for the reasons you've already mentioned.

We're currently processing ID documents in 16 working days. So, once you send this please check your account and e-mails for any updates.

Thanks, Graeme
