Is my highers enough to apply for law

Hi there everyone, I jst recieved my higher results, I got an A history A geography A rmps and B English so I’m wondering if that will be enough to apply for law at Scottish unis if if they want 5 highers . I’ll probably apply to Glasgow cali, Edinburgh Napier, uws and idk if my grades are enough to get into Glasgow or Strathclyde even if I’m quintile 2 so would meet the minimum requirements. Please give advice also wtf do I write a personal statement about

It doesn't cost you anything to apply, so you may as well apply to Glasgow Uni and Stathclyde too. The worst they can do is say no.

Edinburgh Uni is another with a good reputation in Law.

I’m pretty sure that if you don’t have 4-5 As at Higher then they would make offers to you based on Advanced Highers - to double check I would suggest calling the uni and asking them

Hello @Hiiiinooooooo 🙂
Universities will be able to help explain each of our entry requirements so feel free to call/get in touch with us over the next few weeks for advice and guidance on this sort of thing - we're happy to help!
For Strathclyde, if you are eligible for the minimum entry requirements we're normally looking for around ABBBB by the end of your first sitting. Based on your grades at AAAB I'd say we'd be likely to be able to consider you. We'd recommend continuing on with your S6 study and picking subjects that are essay based (similar to the ones you've achieved there).

For your personal statement - try to show an interest in the profession and share what has driven you to consider studying Law. Tell us what you've done to prepare yourself for University and show us your key skills in areas like communication, team working etc. and demonstrate how they'll be relevant. If you're staying on in S6 your school will help you with the personal statement too so don't worry too much right now 🙂

Hi I’ve got a similar question I have also just sat my highers and achieved 3A’s in History, English and Classical studies and 2 B’s. I know your standard entry is 4 A’s and a B for LLB would I still be considered? Thank you so much! My B’s were in maths and biology ( appealing biology) I’m not sure if that matters. I am also doing AH in History and modern studies then also a higher politics and french in S6.

Hi there,

Thank you for your enquiry and we are delighted to hear of your interest in studying Law here at the University of Glasgow.

Our website details the full entry requirements for each course for 2025 entry, including the subject requirements. You will find these on each course page under the ‘entry requirements’ section, this can be found here: www.gla.ac.uk/undergraduate/degrees

Most courses show a typical (by end of S6) and a minimum set of grades, and we would always advise students to aim for the typical requirements to ensure the best chance of receiving an offer. The typical grades shown are usually by the end of S6, with an S5 minimum noted this is to offer guidance to students and let them know this is the S5 minimum we would look for when assessing an application.

With regards to minimum requirements, you'll find more information about these on the specific pages for Scots and Common Law, including our online tool to check if your postcode meets the minimum entry criteria.

In the personal statement we are looking to find out more about you - you can tell us about why you would like to study your course(s), any relevant school projects/ external projects you have taken part in and any work experience/volunteering you have. UCAS have a good guide for more information on how to write personal statements - https://www.ucas.com/undergraduate/applying-university/writing-personal-statement/how-write-personal-statement.

If you have any other questions, please do get back in touch!

Hey, I’m very very late to this discussion but I’m in a similar position. This year in my s5 highers I got AAAB (H English, H Modern Studies, H History and H RMPS) and predicted AAAB in s6 this year (ADV Mods, H Psychology, H Biology and H Maths). I have a pretty packed personal statement with work experience, books, online courses, visiting court etc. I’m also sitting the LNAT in mid November but I’m hoping in submitting my application very soon. I’m thinking of applying to Edinburgh, Strathclyde, Dundee, Aberdeen and Stirling. Edinburgh is very risky, and from what I’ve seen on the StudentRoom so is Strathclyde, how did things turn out for you if you don’t mind me asking?

daughter didn't apply to EDI based on the above. Saying that she only wants to go to Aberdeen. Same grades as you had an unconditional from Stirling last night. My friends son got rejected from EDI 5 A's (S5) he did challenge it and was accepted.

Oh wow! That’s amazing for her, what grades did your daughter get if you don’t mind me asking? Also was this last year or this year?

her offer was Stirling unconditional AAAB, awaiting RGU, Aberdeen, Caley (out of all the admissions departments Aberdeen and Stirling have been super quick to respond to her questions)... it's weird Caley has a higher entry requirement than most. She is keen for Aberdeen

you have good results and the LNAT will stand you in good position for the tougher UNIS... do you need to do 4 more qualifications it seems quite intense! my daughter crashed psychology loved it. you will get unconditionals for Aberdeen Stirling and probably Dundee (dundee was in clearing 2025 BBCCC)

No Lnat. She is contextual but her post code wasn't flagging so we just left it as she had the grades. The widening access thing can be a mystery. Our postcode was showing as quintile 1 but coming up different depending on which uni. She did submit on 9th so very early. I know Stirling was based on non contextual.. hope that helps and good luck.
