Is accutane worth it

I've had acne since I was 15 and I turn 21 in October. For about 3 years I used duac with clindamycin which worked so good for me. Then it stopped working so I started adapalene for 6 months which ruined my skin. I then went on lymecycline which helped my skin massively but then I got put on epiduo which I've only used for 2 weeks and once a week. My acne is so bad again and it comes if I eat junk or drink fizzy drinks or even today when I was swimming in the pool in the apartment. I just wanna be like everyone else who eats rubbish and doesn't get this stuff and who can do what they want wear whatever cream without worrying if it's comedogenic. My GP said if epiduo won't work it's isotretinoin for me. What do you guys think is it worthe the risk?

I've been in the same boat as you, and I did get offered accutane. I saw the side effects and thought absolutely not.
I knew my acne was hormonal, and I decided to do some research into what could cause these hormone fluctuations since I wasn't experiencing much stress and I was nearing the end of puberty. I saw that a poor gut microbiome could cause hormone fluctuations, and it is directly attributed to so many other problems I've been experiencing like lethargy and behavioural changes. I'm two and a half weeks in what I call my gut restoration project, and the breakout (from starting the project) is subsiding, my hyperpigmentation is starting to balance out, and my combination skin isn't really combination anymore, just more dry which I expected because of how it naturally was.
I'd genuinely give it ago, it's helped me a lot already and I'm excited to see what the outcome will be like in the next few months. Then you could see about isotretinoin.

I took it in my late 20’s with severe acne on my bank and neck. It was that severe I had two rounds of it - defo worth it. Obvious side effects skin drying out removing the oil from the hair follicles etc so needing good skin care regime and hydrating well , keeping out of the sun. No probs

Hi!
So the main thing I do, and what I advise most is to take prebiotics (food for the good gut bacteria basically) and probiotics (the good gut bacteria). I exercise every day, even on lazy days a moderate length walk will do. I eat high-fibre fruits almost every day (avocado, apple, banana, orange, strawberries etc.), and other fruits like mangoes and cherries. I drink green tea (around 3 cups a day). Nuts like almonds. Literally any vegetable in my vicinity.
It's advised you eat fermented foods to increase probiotes in your gut naturally, things like kimchi and kefir, but I don't know how to make kimchi and I always forget to buy it, and I believe my microbiome havoc caused symptoms of what I thought was lactose intolerance (which could just be my gut reacting to the lactose and not me actually having an intolerance) so I'm limiting consumption of all lactose to stop those effects.
I'd say the main thing is cutting out those unhealthy super processed foods, drinking more water, taking those probiotics and prebiotics, limit red meat consumption.
I'm probably going to do this strictly for 2 more months, just to be more certain, and then reintroduce infrequent consumption of those sorts of foods I cut out.
Your gut is really easily disturbed and is often the cause of a lot of problems people experience. Personally, I had digestive issues, my mood would change so fast, my acne fluctuations, my sleep patterns would be inconsistent, temperature changes etc. and all of that is starting to phase out of my daily life, which is nice.
It's a pain, but sometimes it's what has to be done.

Sadly, not everyone is blessed with the fact that they can eat anything they want and not get acne. Some of us do need to watch what we eat and actually try to be healthy. It's so disheartening.
I do think it depends how bad ur acne is bc some people rlly do need it so for them, the pros can outweigh the cons but its up to you. I would suggest fixing ur diet and keep on using Epiduo and increasing the usage on that and see what happens.

Search "..Astaxanthin for for acne" Much better try that first perhaps, is good for skin generally as well. Is another one good also which will remember later. Niacinamide also.
