Enrolling into another course…SFE…LSF

I have attended my first year of nursing this year, however have decided to switch to Occupational Therapy for September 2024. Due to University rules, I had to apply through UCAS to be able to do this, but start my first year again (this is all at the same University). I have had my new nursing timetable emailed to me for second year, however I haven’t physically enrolled myself into that year yet.

The University is saying in order for me to be fully enrolled into OT, I need to withdraw from nursing now. However, I’m not sure whether this will have any complications with SFE and the LSF I have received this term as I have read online they will take a payment from my bank account as it will be classified as an ‘overpayment’. But not too sure if this is the case as the teaching period has ended? I have already applied for SFE and the LSF for occupational therapy. With this, will the university withdraw me themselves at the end of the year….or do I have to do it.

As it is the end of the academic year, formally withdrawing from the nursing course now won't have any impact on the student finance you have already received. Likewise for the NHS LSF - if you have completed the year and received the July payment, you won't be required to repay anything. You do need to keep the NHS LSF informed though so make you let them know that you are changing courses.

(And as a note to others who may be reading this, maintenance loan overpayments aren't taken directly from your bank account. You might be liable to make a repayment if you leave part way through a term and have received the maintenance loan instalment for that term. You receive a notification of the amount that has been overpaid and you can pay it then or contact SFE to agree a repayment plan.)
