Tuition fee loan after dropping out in 3rd year

Hi all,

I’m a little bit stuck. I dropped out of University in 3rd year back in 2020 (No compelling reason - I really didn’t like my course or was I enjoying my time at university)

I’m now looking at studying an online 2-year accelerated business and marketing with Falmouth or potentially a 2-year accelerated teaching degree at Leeds.

I feel like I unfortunately already know the answer…

But will I get any tuition fee loans / funding? It’s not something I can reasonably afford at the moment

Hi Thedro,

Just to check is your new course going to be full time? Thanks, Jason

Hi Jason,

I was planning on doing the full-time 2 year option, yes.

However, if getting funding means having to do it part-time then I would be open to doing that.

Hi Thedro,

It may be worth considering that. If you study part-time you should be entitled to the Tuition Fee Loan for the duration of the course. Also, if the course isn't distance learning you can get a Maintenance Loan.

Based on your previous study you won't be entitled to the Tuition Fee Loan for any years of these new courses if they're full-time.

So, we'd suggest asking your university if part-time if a possible option.

Thanks, Graeme

Hi Graeme,

The course does offer a part-time option which is completed over 3 years distance learning (Online)

Just to confirm, you think I’d be able to get funding for that?

As it says it’s part-time but 3 years is the “standard” degree time

Hi ThedroSmith,

You would be able to get funding for this as we don't take full time previous study into account for part time courses. However, as it is a distance learning course you wouldn't be eligible for a maintenance loan unless you can provide evidence that you have a disability that prevents you attending a course in person.

Thanks,
Calum
