Exams Ruined My Life!

I'm in an incredibly difficult situation, and I'm feeling utterly lost. Ever since I can remember, I've dreamt of becoming a pharmacist, and I truly believe I would excel in this field. I had high hopes for my S5 exams, expecting to achieve AAABB in my Highers, but unfortunately, I only managed to get ABBDD. Despite participating in numerous extracurricular activities, my grades have fallen short, and I'm now facing the prospect of resitting Maths and Biology. I know this means I no longer meet the entry requirements for RGU or Strathclyde University, and with Aberdeen being so far from Glasgow, I'm feeling utterly stuck and devastated. My dreams of pursuing MPharm seem shattered, and I have no idea what direction my life will take now. The thought of not graduating until much later in life is crushing, and I’m genuinely worried about my future. If anyone has any advice or alternative routes I could take to achieve my dream—or even suggestions for other careers that might suit my skills and passions—please let me know. It would mean the world to me. Thank you for taking the time to read this.

Sorry to read your exams didn’t go as you had hoped for, please take it from someone who at 18 was very disappointed in my A-levels that your life is definitely not over, it’s only just starting and your future achievements will be a resultant of your grit & determination.

id also say:
graduating slightly longer then you thought at 18 is no big deal. Please remember you will likely be working until you’re 70 years old. Taking slightly longer to move from education to employment is not going to be a big deal, in fact it is very normal. In school life can feel like a conveyor belt.. but it is not. So if you choose to resit and take an extra year, you should view this as a positive route forward from the position you are in. Getting knocked down, getting up and going again is a sign of strength & a positive reflection on your mentality.

id also like to draw your attention to foundation/preparation years which do exist for pharmacy, you may have to consider a broader range of universities (around the UK) but this would give you more routes into a Pharmacy degree.

You may also find you have unexplored passions & opportunities that will excite you that you haven’t even unearthed as a possibility yet.

Hey!

I've got two pieces of advice for you!

1) Being Scottish I know that you have the option to do some of these exams either again in S6 OR to take them as AH's during S6. I would honestly recommend doing something like this!

2) The universe and the fates have a funny way of pointing us in the right direction.
