Counter arguments are only necessary in debates if someone first presents a valid argument / claim (e.g. the left dismiss anyone who is anti-immigration as a racist or bigot). If they haven't then it is sufficient to simply point out that the claim is invalid, no counter arguments are necessary. The burden is on you to prove these claims, not on us to disprove them.
You've also completely missed the part where I talked about the practical side of this.

Your statement here takes on the stance 'I'm know I'm Ok and you are not Ok' If you decide that someone does not have a valid argument or claim then you pretty much dismiss it out of hand straight away, based on your opinion rather than evidence. In that respect you are pretty much a closed shop and having any kind of debate is pretty futile. I hope you don't work in the foreign office.

I've dismissed their claim because they haven't presented evidence to support it (or, rather, they only provided one bit of evidence and didn't say why it's representative of the wider political landscape).

I'm not a "closed shop", I'm welcome to receiving more examples (as I've requested several times). The trouble is that the examples being given aren't relevant to the claim I asked about.

And this is very eloquently put and pretty much exactly what I've been saying.
