How to Prepare for Results Day: Tips from a Current Uni Student

Hey everyone!

With A-Level results day coming up, I am sure there are a lot of very anxious students out there! As someone who has been through it (and survived!) I wanted to share some quick tips on how you can prepare for results day, to hopefully make the day a little less stressful!

Here’s what helped me or what I wish I'd known:

Get Organised the day (or a couple) before:
Being organised and knowing where everything is, can help to reduce some of the stress on the day!

Make sure you have all the important documents ready, including your UCAS details, offer letters and required grades.

Keep a list of contact details for your firm and insurance choices handy, just in case you need to call them. If you think you might go through Clearing, jot down a few universities and courses you're interested in.

Most importantly, make sure you know your ucas login details and password. I can tell you as someone who couldn’t remember my login details how stressful it was trying to reset them about 5 minutes before results came out!

Have a plan B (and C!)
While I really hope everyone gets the results they’re aiming for, it’s a good idea be prepared for if things don’t go your way.
I would suggest having a plan for 3 different scenarios:

1.

What will you do if you meet your offer?

2.

What will you do if you exceed your offer?

3.

What will you do if you missyour offer?

Stay calm (or as calm as you can!) and be kind to yourself
It is a really nerve-wracking time - I know the night before my results day I was a complete mess! I would really recommend having everything prepared in advanced so the night before you can relax and try to do something to take your mind off it.

Remember, It’s Not the End of the World

Whatever happens and whether you get the results you hoped for or not, it doesn’t define your future. There are always alternative paths and opportunities, even if they aren’t what you originally planned.

I know people who didn’t get their first choice but ended up loving where they went or what they did instead.

Whether you get your first choice, go through clearing, or decide to take a gap year, things will all work out, even if it involves taking a different route than what you expected to, you will still get to where you want to be

Reach out!
If you’re feeling overwhelmed or are unsure about anything, reach out! Whether it’s a parent, a friend, or a teacher, having someone to chat with can really help. And of course, this thread is here for you too!

Feel free to ask any questions and share how you are feeling about results day or where & what you are planning on studying. Or, if you are a current uni student - what advice / top tip would you add?

Good luck to everyone—I’m rooting for you all! 🎉
