MSc Psychology Online - Arden University October 2024

Hey,

I’ve accepted my offer from Arden University and have enrolled in the MSc Psychology (conversion) program. I start in October 2024. Is there anyone else that is going to be starting the same program, in the same cohort?

Thanks!

Hi, I did the course at Arden and finished in 2022 and had a really great time. I would recommend getting the book by Coolican 'Research Methods and Statistics in Psychology' as it was invaluable for the first two units and the dissertation also. It's the only book I bought for the course, as all the other materials I needed were on the virtual learning environment or the journal search area.

A second hand copy on ebay (other retailers are available!) should do the trick

I'm sure you will do great!

Hi Marc,

Thank you so much for the recommendation and encouragement. Glad you hear you had a good experience with the program.

May I ask if you are a resident of the UK or an international student?

If you have any other suggestions or recommendations to kickstart preparing for the program, I’d greatly appreciate it.

Thank you again,
Zenia

I live in Manchester.

The first unit was using SPSS which I had the advantage of using a tiny bit before during my Sociology degree - it is a statistical analysis program. I would utilise all the available resources for that unit, especially the guidance videos and take your time. Learning any program as part of research methods can be a bit trial and error and gets frustrating for some.

I would just have a good rest before you get started and deal with any distractions which might get in the way

Hi Marc,

Are you able to give some insights and share the intensity of each module and how many did you manage in one each term?

Thanks.

I finished in 2022 so my memory is a little vague. I do remember an hour a week of lectures to interact with, as I teach full time I never actually was able to attend many 'live' so I was always catching up. There would also be activities in the virtual learning environment to bring about discussions between students. Some tutors did some things differently, one, who was marvellous had like a message board to help us all interact, that was very informal as we shared some of our experiences relating to development psychology.

There was the option to start the next unit if you had completed the assessment, but this had to be approved by the tutors.

I felt like I had plenty of time to work on assignments, it was towards the end of lockdown so the world was a very different place, but I think I would have handled it the same today

The subject is very interesting more to be learned . I always wanted to become a psychologist but l was wrong of what l was expecting. It does look like there is going to be a lot of research and discussion.

A big tip to help is to make use of the academic journals available to you, and supporting points with double referencing also helps validate a claim such as (Smith, 2012; Jones, 2015). My degree, before the MSc, was in a different subject which was a bit less sciency and we didn't usually do that

Delighted to hear. I strongly recommend a book called 'Statistics and Research Methods in Psychology' by Coolican, it was invaluable when I did the course. Also avoid older text books on neuroscience some of the content is out of date now. Best of luck you will do great!

Hey guys. Have you have heard about somebody that took this conversion course and managed to get into the doctorate in clinical psychology?

This is my mainly goal and at the moment I'm looking for the conversion masters options.

Besides, how much are the tuition fees at Arden?

I am also looking at the October start, has anyone had problems finding the course in SFE to apply for the masters loan? I can’t find it! Any help welcome
