Freshers week

I am unable to go to the first day of freshers week in September because I have my driving test, but will I be missing anything important?

Hi @Hopeful583839

Are you missing the first day of Freshers' week, or will you also be missing the first day of your course?

If it's just Freshers' events, like meet ups, activities, nightlife events, or uni fairs, etc, I wouldn't worry. It would be nice for you to attend, but I don't think you will miss anything too important.

If you'll be missing the first class for your course, this will still be okay to do, but maybe get in touch with your tutors when you can to see if you've missed any key information. But even still, my first day was mostly introductions and information, which ended up being uploaded online afterwards too. So I would try not to worry.

I'm sure there are plenty of other events and activities throughout Freshers' you can get involved with.

Hope this helps. 🙂

Hello!

Thank you for your question

I wouldn't worry too much! In my experience, the activities pick up more on the second and third days of freshers. Although it is a shame you won't be able to attend, there will still be plenty of time to attend events and meet new people.

Good luck on your test!

Hiya!

As mentioned below, if it's just one day during Freshers Week that you'll miss, I wouldn't worry too much. There are plenty of events throughout the week, and you don’t have to attend every single one. It’s totally okay to miss a few, and you’ll likely find other students in the same situation. While I can’t speak for other universities, at De Montfort, we already have some Freshers events advertised. It might be worth checking your university’s website to see if there are any events scheduled on that day, just incase you want to see what events are happening throughout the week/weeks.

If you’re missing a scheduled introduction for your course, it would be a good idea to inform the university. This way, you won’t miss anything important, though most crucial information will probably be emailed to you anyway, so try not to stress too much. 😄

How are you feeling about starting university?

No not at all, they know people have just moved in and are trying to settle in so there isn't too much going on, on that 1st day. I'm sure by day 2 you won't have missed much.

Hi!
It’s unlikely that you will miss anything important as people will be meeting and making friends all week. You may miss freshers fair where you’ll find out information about societies. However, there are other ways to contact any societies you would like to join or attend taster sessions of, for example email or social media accounts.

Hope this helps! Faye ◡̈
