Would I be able to stay a week on freshers week if I’m a student at my friends

Would I be able to stay a week at my friends if I go to the same university on freshers due to the fact I’m commuting and if I can’t I’ll be waiting for the train at 3am

Hi there,

I would get your friend to check the guest policy with their accomodation. Some accoms are pretty flexible with guests but others require residents to sign their guests in, or to sometimes submit overnight guest requests the day before. Hopefully your friends' accommodation is flexible so you can stay - but I'd definitely check.

If it's okay with the accommodation, I'd also suggest asking your friend to check with their flatmates. Most other students will be okay with it anyway and may even have guests during Freshers' too, but I think as you're planning on being there a few nights, it's polite to check in with the other flat mates.

Hopefully you get something worked out. 🙂

Hi Anon,
It would be worth getting your friend to check what their accommodation policy is for guests as they might need permission for you to stay or to sign you in. Also some universities have restrictions on how long guests can stay, so it might not be possible to stay the whole week.
Also I'd also ask your friend to check if having a friend staying over during freshers is okay with their flat mates, although most student generally wont mind.
Hope this helps!

The two reps that replied to you above are correct in that there might be some rules limiting how much time you can stay as a guest in halls.

However, these rules are usually not policed and as long as you're not being a nuisance, you should be alright, even if your stay is technically rule-breaking. Make with this information what you will. I would agree that it's best to double-check with your friend's flatmates / give them a heads up.

As advised below, it's best that your friend checks with their accommodation office as rules do vary. Our for example allows three nights for guests.
