Funding for second master’s in AHP

I have previously studied 3-year undergraduate BSc Psychology. I have also completed a Masters in a non-healthcare subject.
Would I be eligible for SFE tuition loan if I studied a second masters degree in Occupational Therapy, commencing year 25/26?
How would I go about applying as my current SFE account doesn’t let me say that I am applying based on a AHP course and so says I am not eligible.

Many thanks

Hi Ellie,

25/26 applications are not live yet and won't be open until next spring. Occupational Therapy courses are exempt from previous study rules for full funding as long as you're not registered in this field already. Thanks, Jason

Even when I try and see if im eligible for the current year it still says I am not.
I have also read that I would only be eligible for funding if doing the BSc Occupational Therapy programme as a second degree rather than the MSc Occupational Therapy programme due to already holding a Masters qualification in another subject - is this true?

Hi Ellie,

Are you clicking on postgraduate or undergraduate when you check eligibility? Can you confirm the university you're looking to study the course at as well? Thanks, Jason

I have looked into both postgraduate and undergraduate. On my SFE account it wont let me proceed with Undergraduate as it says already had full 3 years loan, for Postgraduate when I proceed it says you are not eligible as already completed a Masters degree.

The course would either be BSc Pre-Registration Occupational Therapy or MSc pre-reg Occupational Therapy at Manchester Met.

Thanks. The courses both attract undergraduate funding so you'd apply on an undergraduate application even if it's a postgraduate healthcare course. Once you make the application it will let you proceed. But again this wouldn't be until next year. You'd also apply as a new student and not 'reapply' for funding. Thanks, Jason

Thank you for your help.

So just to clarify despite already having taken an undergraduate and masters loans and completed courses I would still be eligible for funding for a second masters in occupational therapy?

Further, how do I apply as a new student when I already have an account set up? Do I need to wait until my current masters is completed in September?

Many thanks

Hi ellie hazley,

Yes, it is a course that is an exception to previous study rules. You just login to your account and start a new application instead of selecting the option to reapply.

Hi Clare,

I am not given the option to start a new application? Can I have a step my step process of how to do this as under both the undergraduate and postgraduate masters sections I am unable to apply for new funding due to previous study?
The SFE website/application process and the information you are giving me seem to contradict?

Many thanks,
Ellie

When I start a new application it says I already have existing applications for all available academic years and there is no option to state I would be applying for an exception course?

Hi Ellie, if you have a current course that's not due to finish until September the system won't allow you to make a new application. If you wait until spring next year and apply via your current account on a 'new application'. We have the live chat in your account that you can use next Spring to speak with us, should you have any issues making the application. Thanks, Jason
