Law and politics

Hi everyone,
I’m going to be sending my uni applications by mid October and am wanting to apply for Law at Oxford, KCL and LSE and apply for Law with Politics at Queen Mary and Manchester. I have a question regarding my personal statement. I imagine I should focus the whole ps on Law, but for the Politics bit, should I discuss it in relation to the law, such as talking about something related to the United Nations (a study I had done)? I am also going to be doing an EPQ in yr 13 and its related to politics - is this something I can talk about in my personal statement? I wish my school was more helpful during this time haha, thanks for any advice  + and also, I’m not 100% keen on applying to LSE yet, could anyone recommend any good alternatives in London?

Discussing politics in relation to law could be a good idea if you are interested in areas of overlap, such as public law and international law. LSE tend to place a big emphasis on your PS, so you’d ideally want to focus on law as much as possible if you’re going to apply there. You’re EPQ is definitely a good thing to talk about if it’s related to the courses you’re applying to. Some good London alternatives for law are UCL (almost equally as competitive as LSE), City University of London and Royal Holloway (which is in Egham, but still part of the University of London). I’ll also be applying to study law this year at Manchester, as well as Cambridge, Bristol, Nottingham and Leeds. Best of luck with your applications

I think you should try incorporating politics in law. Talk about political law and certain events that sparked your interest, and definitely talk about the united nations, since you did a study on it. I'm doing an EPQ too but mine isn't remotely related to law in any sense, so I'm just keeping it there as like some sort of proof that I'm good at planning and writing essays, but if you are going to apply to law and politics definitely put in a sentence mentioning it.

My top university choice is UCL, it's ranked higher then LSE and I heard it was the top for law so you might want to consider it as an option.

Hiya
I'm also planning on applying to Oxford and KCL this year as well as Warwick, Southampton and Leicester. I would say like the others have said already, try discussing politics in relation law, maybe sort of discuss how politics has affected the ability to ensure that laws are effective (this being said don't make it too opinionated either as I've heard this can sometimes be a disadvantage to applications.)
LSE is really competitive but if you're looking for other unis in London that are still pretty good but not as competitive, I would recommend SOAS and Brunel- from what I've heard they're pretty good. Also you could consider Kent and Surrey too, although they're not in London they're both still pretty close to the city.
