hey! firstly, i would strongly advise you to not give up!

There are some unis that only consider UCAT as the last resort (if all students performed almost perfectly, which is unlikely). Also, if you’re eligible for gateway or access courses, they normally have a lower UCAT cut off or also only consider UCAT as the last resort. It is definitely not impossible for you to get into medicine, you may need to apply strategically or focus on your a levels for now and redo your UCAT next year. Do not give up!

Hey there,

4th year med student here and happy to give advice/tips on the application process.

Really sorry to hear that the UCAT didn’t go too well.

But remember you can still get into Medicine!

Apply strategically to universities that place less emphasis on the UCAT.

For example, Aston, Birmingham, Sheffield, Exeter and Keele are some examples that will not place much emphasis on the UCAT.

Try to do well in the PS, you have good grades and with the right mindset, I’m sure you’ll get into Medicine.

Remember, we’ve all been there at some point where things don’t go according to plan, but you’ll eventually find a way.

Hope this helps and remembers any questions, do let me know and you can PM me (do check there!) as well.

Aston, Birmingham, Sheffield and Exeter have needed pretty high UCAT scores in recent years and even Keele now use it for 7 of their 25 shortlisting marks.

Where to apply depends on exactly how good GCSEs and A levels are?

yessss it’s still worth it unis like Plymouth don’t really put too much weighting on the ucat and if ur still wary u can do 6 year course, my friend had a similar score and go into a foundation year , so that’s also an option
Also wondering how u found the actual ucat because I have mine in a week and I’m so scared

Don’t give up - this year apply strategically ( I would advise going away and doing your own research directly on uni websites to find out about their scoring/weighting of the UCAT as some will put less emphasis than others).

If you don’t get in this year and the only thing holding you back was the UCAT, then you can always take a gap year out and resit the UCAT after A levels are over - booking the UCAT later in summer to give yourself a As you already have your grades the process of choosing where to apply will be much easier and if you get any offers you won’t have conditions to meet.
Please I’ve gotten a 2480 b3 score where can I apply? My a level predicted are good but I’m upset that I’m not possibly able to achieve an interview at even Exeter considering I’ve done their scholars program and it says it’s giving an interview without using the ucat in the selection process but it says by meeting the ucat requirements when there isn’t any on the website. Please give me advice anyone, I’m really upset it didn’t go well today.

My grade offer is AAB as it’s a contextual thing also.. I’ve gotten a lot higher than this A* AA hoping to push the Another A star… I’m reallyworried..

I got a 2480 b3 and I’m a contextual student I have good GCSEs and predicted three As hoping to ask my teachers for an a star at least, do you recommend I do if I want to apply to Exeter as a contextual? They give me an offer of AAB and it’s because of a scholars program saying they’d give an interview but not using the ucat within the selection process for interview but I’m a bit confused how that works. Despite the fact that I’ve gotten a 5th decile score it’s not where I can apply much

i agree! though i really wouldn’t recommend Birmingham for lower UCAT i thought they put less emphasis on it too!! but last year i got 2410 band 2, had 3A*s 1A predicted, sooo much work experience and a good personal statement with all 8s and 9s at GCSE and they still rejected me pre-interview as i ‘didn’t meet the threshold’
my friend got 3090 and got rejected pre-interview for the same reason!!

As your grades are good, Sunderland, QUB and there are few others as well accept very low cut off , around 2300.
