bad gcse grades for dentistry

hi im going into year 13 in september and will be applying to uni for 2025 but i want to study dentistry

my gcse results are pretty bad compared to the ppl ive seen apply to dentistry 8777777776 and im scared this will heavily affect whether unis will accept me or not

my predicted grades are A*AA (maths chem bio) but im thinking of resitting bio since i was 3 marks off, my chem teacher also thinks im able to get an A* so i should resit

i havent sat the ucat exam yet, its booked for aug 22 and even with the ucat im not sure whether ill get a good score as ive seen so many ppl on the internet get 3000+ and my mock scores arent looking that great

ive said to ppl that if i flop the ucat then ill just switch to biochemistry or maybe neuroscience but even if i do get good for my ucat score is it even worth applying with my gcse grades

Your GCSE grades are fine. If you think you are capable of getting an A* in biology then definitely resit. It doesn’t hurt to try. As for your UCAT, getting a score above 3000 is incredibly difficult and uncommon. Don’t be disheartened seeing people achieve scores above 3000 - realistically this will be a minority of applicants. A score above 2600 should put you in a relatively safe position. Keep practising and do your best in the UCAT. Don’t switch to a course you don’t like or haven’t done your research on just because you’re worried about getting into dentistry. Instead, have a safety choice for your fifth non-dentistry option on UCAS. If you like biochemistry or neuroscience and would be happy to study one of these courses, you may want to even have two non-dentistry options. Once you sit your UCAT and get your score, post in this thread to see which dental schools you could apply to:

You may be limited in terms of where you can apply, depending on the subjects in which you achieved a grade 6 or below. I'm not an expert, so you'll have to look up the entry requirements for different dental schools and see how they use GCSEs.

I can’t tell you whether it would be risky to apply to dentistry on GCSEs alone. There are other factors to consider, such as A level grades, your UCAT and personal statement. As long as you meet the entry requirements, you won’t be disadvantaged, unless GCSEs are scored for admissions purposes. You’ll have to check the criteria for the universities you’re applying to. If you want advice from experts, post your stats in the thread mentioned above.
