PGCE or MA in Art education to become an art teacher?

I live in Hong Kong and looking to re-enter the work after taking a career break to look after my young children. Teaching seems to be a viable option as there are a lot of international schools here. I’m looking into doing a PGCE online but because I want to teach art. Do I need an MA in art education? Or do I need both qualifications to teach at an international school?
My background is in Fashion design.

Hi, it is not necessary to have a master degree to teach in the UK however a PGCE is compulsory. But I don't know about the qualifications you need for international school.

To teach in the UK in a state school, you need Qualified Teacher status which is usually earned as part of a PGCE. The masters might not necessarily give this so you need to check. The PGCE is the academic qualification that accompanies the QT status but is not essential. You may however be required to have a subject related degree to teach something like Art. That said, if you can show you have the necessary skills and knowledge that will also count.
With a Fashion Design degree, you might also be eligible to teach Design and Technology, as Textiles is part of the curriculum. You would need to get the QTS qualification to do this. If you would like to talk through your options and see if teaching in England is an option for you, you can sign up for an adviser here.

Thanks, Aly
