Good charity shops in Birmingham? Share some tips!

I'm an international student on budget going to BCU this September and will be living near the city center campus. I will need to thrift a lot of items when I arrive so does anyone have any suggestions on nice places to thrift?

Also where can I get second-hand bicycles for cheap?
Harborne and Moseley both have really good charity shops, and are a fairly short trip on the bus from central Birmingham. If you're willing to travel a bit further out, Leamington Spa has very good charity shops and is around a forty-minute train journey from Birmingham. You might have luck finding a bicycle on Facebook. I see a lot of people selling them on a group called Fab n Fresh, which is aimed mostly at UoB students. There's also a place called The ReUsers in Sutton Coldfield (which is a twenty-minute train ride from New Street station) that sells second-hand bikes, although quality and pricing can be a bit hit or miss and you may well be able to find a shop closer to central Birmingham.

Hi there,

All of the above mentions are great suggestions!

There's also The Scrapstore, which is a 40 minute bus or 30 minute car ride out of the city centre, but it's a worthwhile trip! It's a recycling centre, so there's lots of arts and craft supplies - stationary too if you're needing it - but there's also some home decor and other homewares too. And it's super cheap!

Also, if you happen to get the bus there, you'll pass through Northfield, which is a high street just past UoB and Selly Oak. There are a handful of charity shops here, and I always find something when I go.

Hope this helps. 🙂
