Hey there,

4th year med student here.

Basically med schools like KCL, Edinburgh and Manchester look at the UCAT quite a bit

Other med schools like Hull York, Nottingham, Keele and Sheffield don’t. Best to check though if this has changed haha!

But otherwise apply strategically to those ones that focus more on PS, grades, etc.

Have you already sat the UCAT or are asking if you get this score?

Hope this helps. If you have any further question’s about the application process, interviews, do let me know here or PM me!

Thank you so much for your response!
Unfortunately, my UCAT score wasn’t so good with a score of 2350. It’s a shame because i get good grades and have done a lot of good work experience. Although my UCAT score wasn’t so good i really don’t want to give up.

I’m thinking of applying for foundation years as i am eligible for them. I assume that foundation years will offer lower ucat cut off?? as they do for lower predicted grades needed. You are right about applying strategically and i will definitely have a think about that.

Hey,

Don’t worry about it and I’m glad you found it useful.

I remember doing the UCAT and had a tough time with the prep and results.

But I applied carefully and got into medical school.

Exactly, do look into each med school carefully and go from there.

Normally the cut off UCAT score is the same for the foundation and normal courses, only the predicted grades are lower. But best thing to do is to contact the admissions office for each med school you potentially apply too and ask them for the criteria, to help clarify.

Ofc, you shouldn’t give up. You’ve worked hard to get to where you need to be and I’m sure you’ll be fine. Remember, the foundation year will help prepare you for the actually med school years, through basic knowledge and background of the Medicine covered in 1st and 2nd year.

Hope this helps and any other questions, don’t hesitate to ask here or DM. 😉
