petrified for results day

Results day is in 3 days and I am so petrified I feel like I can't breathe anymore. I am so scared, because I am so sure I won't get the grades I worked so hard for, and everything will fall apart. My dream uni won't accept me and I can't even imagine how much that will hurt on results day, I don't know what to do and am so scared. I can't understand clearing and how to even prepare for it and how to be best prepared for results day so that I don't cry when I open my results. I am so scared I can't stop crying and I don't know what to do.
Hi, as I read on another forum - results are just results, not a prison sentence. You shouldn't be scared of them. You put in the hard work and you prepared for exams - don't worry about something that you cannot control. You did your part. I think the best way to take your mind off results day is just distract yourself; spend time with family and friends - we don't get this time back and your future self is probably going to regret it if you spend 3 days worrying instead of 3 days enjoying your life. So just relax, don't think about results and live your life.

To prepare for clearing you can download the clearing app and look for universities there but some unis aren’t on the app. I would say search up the uni you want and take note of the clearing phone number.

Also I would take note of your UCAS candidate number in preparation to call unis and apparently you also need your clearing number which will show up on UCAS if you don’t get accepted into your firm or insurance.

Hi,

I would recommend researching clearing to help you feel prepared - you can use this link to find out more about it: https://bit.ly/3TNG4S7
The process of clearing on results day is fairly simple and usually involves finding the course you want to apply for on the university's website, and then ringing the clearing hotline phone number and speaking to an advisor who will fill an application out for you. To help you feel more prepared you could have a look at some courses and universities, and find their clearing phone number.

Also, try to distract yourself and do things that you enjoy and find relaxing.

Good luck with results day and remember that everything will work out!

Let me know if you have any questions about clearing.

Hi

I am sure that all the work you have put in will pay off, you deserve it!

Have a read of our clearing guide that explains what clearing is and how to operate within it - https://wrexham.ac.uk/blog/posts/tips-for-making-clearing-easy-/

Remember other people are feeling exactly the same and it is perfectly normal to feel like this.

See our results day guide here - https://wrexham.ac.uk/blog/posts/what-to-do-if-you-dont-get-the-grades/

You have got this!

Good luck!

Hey @anonyst

I just wanted to check in and see how you were feeling now? I hope you're finding something to do today that distracts you from the nerves and anxiety of results day. I'd recommend spending it with loved ones if you can, taking a walk in nature, reading a book or watching a TV show, perhaps doing yoga or meditation to keep you feeling relaxed and focus on your breathing to help with all the stress. Results Day can be such a scary time, but you have worked so extremely hard and should be so proud of yourself no matter what results you achieve. You couldn't have done anymore, you've tried your absolute best and that's what matters. It's easier said than done though to say don't panic, I know I was feeling very anxious when I was awaiting my results. I made sure to plan something to look forward to for after results day so that way I wasn't just feeling all these extreme anxious feelings and thoughts, I was also feeling excited for something fun afterwards.

Good luck, you've got this!!

Hi @anonyst,

I wanted to see how you are doing and to let you know that it's completely normal to feel this way as you prepare to receive your results. I recommend during this time you try and find things to do that can help take your mind off how you are feeling. Maybe you could call or meet up with a friend or family member, you could watch one of your favourite tv shows or films or simply go out for a walk in the fresh air. Try and remember that there's more to life than grades, even if it doesn't feel like it in this moment. Whatever happens you should be proud of all your hard work.

Best of luck!

I'm so sorry to hear how anxious you're feeling about results day. Many of us find that managing the uncertainty in the lead up to results can be even more difficult than receiving the results themselves.

You may find some of the resources on Student Space helpful, especially 'Why uncertainty can be stressful' and the '7-11 breathing exercise'.

Whatever results you receive tomorrow do not define your future. I can say that from personal experience as I had a disappointing results day when I was at college, yet I still went to university, had a great time, and ended up in a fulfilling career. There are lots of options out there, no matter your results, so be kind to yourself and best of luck🧡

Hi @anonyst

Just wanted to check in to see how you're doing today. How did things go? All of us on this chat are wishing you the best. And hopefully you've got something nice planned later on - no matter your results today, try to remember how hard you've worked, these exams are not easy.

If you need any help with Clearing, there are lots of reps and students online today to help, like myself, so feel free to reach out if you need to help with things.

All the best. 🙂

We totally understand your fears but it's important to remember that you have options regardless of the outcome. Clearing is essentially a way to gain a place for September, so if you need to, you simply call up your university choice, ask if they have places available on the course you want and relay your results back. They can then offer a place depending on its availability. What course are you wanting to study?

Good morning, @anonyst

I hope you are well this morning and I wish you the best of luck for results day today! ☺️
We would love to hear how you are! And if you have any worries, concerns, or questions, direct them here today!

I remember exactly how you feel! As @aaud said, you are not the only one feeling like this today! Results day loomed over me in the weeks leading up to it, but I knew that I had worked my hardest and that was all that I could ask of myself!

I am sure you will do amazing! But if you need any other information regarding clearing today, check this link out from the UCAS website. My advice would be to check which courses have clearing spaces available and get in touch with the university by calling them as soon as you can.

I am sure that all of your hard work will pay off! Best of luck today! ☺️

Don't doubt yourself! I am sure that you have done amazing and that all your hard work has paid off! 😄

If you change your mind on your course today or university, remember that you have options, and I would advise that you get into contact with the university you wish to go to in September as soon as possible if you do change your mind or need to go through clearing.

Wishing you all the best for the future! 😄

Hey guys! Thank you for all the kind comments and help, I just wanted to update you as results day was yesterday. I'm still in shock!
I somehow got near perfect grades and somehow even exceeded the grades I needed for my top choice uni!!!!! I am so mindblown because I thought I had failed and had done so much preparation for clearing. Anyway thank you for all your help, I am so insanely happy and I can't even believe I did it!

Hi @anonyst !

We at Kent are so happy to hear this, you must be so proud of yourself!

You did the right thing getting prepared but I hope this also shows you to have more faith in yourself in future - I have terrible anxiety myself and I once heard that there is no use worrying over what ifs (even though I know it's hard!) because you just put yourself either through something hard unnecessarily or you put yourself through it twice.

What university are you going to and what are you studying?

Enjoy celebrating your hard work!

Gabby
Congratulations, OP! Hope you enjoyed celebrating yesterday and are looking forward to going to your top choice university. If you want any tips on getting prepared and what to expect, remember to check out Student Space 😀🧡 - Nicola
