Struggling to find A University course

Hello! Nice to meet You

Well firstly my name Is Oliwia And I’m 17. I am attending a sixth form now and studying two A-levels ( Mathematics and Business studies ) plus one level 3 National btec which Is information technology. At the side I’m studying further maths and some languages ( Korean and Japanese ). I want to say I am Having one of the biggest problems and I can’t seem to know which course I want to study In University.

I’m very passionate about maths however one thing that is sure is that I absolutely struggle with statistics in maths therefore I’m not keen on taking something related to it, as well as Mechanics. I’m more onto the pure side Of Maths. I’m also passionate about information technology so I’m thinking about either taking maths or computer science in University. However recently I started to become interested in Architecture and Engineering.

I did some reaserch not long ago as I had a Ucas week and started comparing Universities as well as courses to each other but I’m still struggling. Because I really want to do computer science and maths, but the courses I saw for maths are more applied and mechanical which I don’t like, and In Computer science it doesn’t seem to contain as much as maths I want it to have

In my opinion I think it seems like I didn’t do enough recently and things are over the place, but knowing I need to make a decision in one month is making the stress go Higher Haha

So do You guys have any ideas or tips on how I could find the ideal course I want to do? If anything I can give more about my future aspiration, what I want to work as and other information needed!

Thank you, and have a nice day

Hi,

IB graduate here, so I can give you general advice rather than A level specific advice. if you like pure mathematics try and find a course for that. St Andrews has one that combines your undergrad with a masters so you finish the five years with a masters degree. Imperial College also does a course for Pure maths its a BSC with honours. The uni of Swansea also has one. Explore this option as it seems to align with your interests and see whether your qualifications make you eligible for this course. Contact every uni directly, don't go off of general info because some unis have different requirements to others.

Computer science might not be fun for you. Its one of those topics that you no longer have to go to uni to study. Keep it up on the side, do CS courses online, rack up your score on league tables and find niche topics related to maths to explore. But most degrees tend to be just the basics so its unlikely that you will find a CS degree that does as much maths as you want on an undergrad level.

Thank You so much for replying! I will definitely look Into those Universities and their courses. I never knew about the CS courses online, so I will also research about it and maybe take it, I think it would be quite fun to do on the side if I choose to do maths In University. Actually Imperial college is in my top three list Of Universities which I want to go to, so this really caught my Eye!! Thank you so much once Again
