University Invoicing Me for Withdrawn Course

Hi, so I started a degree with OCA in Photography in June time and I just wasn’t in the right frame of mind to start this and wanted to withdraw. It was after the 14 day cancellation period.

Honestly the worst experience with the Uni they take forever to replay and are so unhelpful. Was basically having a mental breakdown and they did not care at all.

Anyway I was hit with an invoice for £1237 today to pay within 14 days?! Is this a joke! Why is the University asking for a full years payment for a course that is barely started.

I spoke to student finance and they said I would repay as normal when I earn over the threshold. So wondering why they are invoicing me directly?!…

Any help would be appreciated as I am so down and stressed about this. Many thanks

Hi it doesn’t look like it was released for the Oct payment. Finance has paid for the first semester- around £400.

I’m struggling to see how I am liable for the whole year when I have finance? And no payment has been requested for the nexts semester

Hi, so my future student finance payments to the university have been blocked as I’ve withdrawn and the university is demanding £1237.50 within 14 days.

You need to take that up with the university as to why they're charging you.

Thanks,
Ross
You can contact the OCA’s Fee Management team via the form here:

https://forms.arts.ac.uk/finance-student-enquiry-form/
There are Student Debt and Fees policy documents available via the OCA website.

To be honest they don’t say a great deal beyond you being liable for the fees if you cancel outside of 14 days unless you submit evidence of exceptional circumstances which are considered on a case by case basis. Again, details in the two docs.
If you have any further questions, let us know. Thanks, Leah.
