Firm and Insurance with the same grades - How would it work?

I've got a Firm and an Insurance both requiring AAA. Let's say I get AAB and my Firm doesn't accept me, can my Insurance still accept me?

Also, if I reject my Firm, would I automatically be put into clearing? Should I contact my Insurance before I reject my Firm (if i do)?

Also, how would I know my actual grades? Would I need to go to my exam center and collect them at 8AM or does UCAS reveal the results in the application (pending results section)?

Thanks

For any Firm offer - if they accept you, even with 'below' grades, you have a place.
If they reject you then your Insurance will go through the same process.

On Results Day, if your Firm has accepted you, your Insurance offer will disappear and you cannot get it back.
In this situation, you can contact the Insurance Uni and see if they would accept you for a Clearing place, but there are no guarantees.

If you want to go into Clearing, you would use the 'Decline my Place' button on Results Day.
Think carefully before you do this - and phone some other Unis to see if they are interested in you before you do this.
If you can't get a Clearing place you want, you cannot then revert to your previously confirmed place.- and for any Clearing place, you would usually be at the back on the queue for accommodation - and 'whats left' may be either mega-expensive or rubbish. Its often a far better idea to take a gap-year and reapply for 5 new choices of courses/Uni you actually want to go to.

Okay I see thank you, let's say I have an Offer from my Firm but I wasn't quite ready to accept it. Could that place be taken by someone else? I.e is there a deadline in which I should accept/reject my offers (if I do get one)?

You dont 'accept' an offer on Results Day - you either have a place at one of your chosen Unis, or you don't.

Ah I see, that makes sense, and so I'd assume to "reject" an offer/place, I would need to call the University directly and ask if it is possible to do so.

Assuming you're in your first year of post-16 study.

It depends when you've gotten all of your decisions back. Generally, if you get them all back before mid May, you've got until earlyish June to decide. If you get them all back after this, then you've got until late July to make up your mind.

This is a semi hard deadline. If you just miss it (and most won't because you've got plenty of time to make up your mind), then we've seen cases where people have called UCAS and they've been able to make their selections over the phone.

I'm actually in my second year of A Levels, I'm waiting for my results on Thursday. Beforehand, I didn't realise that I can't "accept" an offer on the UCAS website, a place is given instead if the uni accepts my grades and I think I would need to call them to "reject" the place.

Thank you for clarifying.

If you have been placed at a university and you want to decline the place, UCAS hub has a button called 'Decline my place'. This will release you from the university, into clearing.

Please make sure you're 100% happy before you do this.

Thank you, I was told that this would release me from the UCAS process entirely. Is that true?

No, but you need to read carefully.

There's two buttons (they're in different places).

Decline my place will release you from your placed university into Clearing.

Withdraw Whole Application will remove you from the UCAS process completely (You don't want this).

You want the Decline my place button.

There's multiple prompts and short questions to answer if you do either anyways. If you are unsure at any point, ask. TSR has plenty of support and useful people over the next few days who can guide you.

Thank you for your help so far, I think I only have one more question. Results come out at 8AM on UCAS on whether I've been accepted or not into either my Firm or my Insurance. If I don't get into either my Firm or Insurance at that point (i.e 8AM), is there anything I can do in the meantime before I need to go collect my AL results at my school (I can only collect my results at 9AM and I can't enter clearing without knowing my actual grades)? I got about an hour to kill

Just to correct you - you don't get your results on UCAS (i.e., your grades), you are able to see which university you've been placed at.

You could errr speak with friends?? Or do something calming before you get your results.
