The Casio FX-83GT CW is a solid calculator for most of the calculations you'll encounter in a BTEC Applied Science course. It covers all the basic functions you’ll need, including statistical calculations, trigonometry, and standard scientific functions.

However, the Casio FX-991CW does offer more advanced features, like matrix calculations, complex numbers, and additional statistical functions. If your course includes more complex mathematical concepts or if you plan to continue into a higher level of science or engineering, upgrading to the FX-991CW might be worth it.

If you’re sticking to BTEC Applied Science and don’t anticipate needing those extra functions, the FX-83GT CW should work just fine. If you’re unsure, check with your course requirements or ask your teachers what they recommend.
