Extra year's tuition

I recently received compensation for a module I failed, but I rejected compensation to take the exam (which even if I don't attend, I should still be eligible for compensation), and compensation allows me to go into the next year. I would like to know whether it is possible to receive an additional year's tuition if one were to withdraw from the course before the exam takes place due to one of the acceptable reasons provided by SFE, or would I have technically finished the year and therefore be ineligible for the additional year's tuition? I have been given the additional year in the past, but I had withdrawn only two months into the year, so I assume this circumstance may have a different outcome.

I contacted SFE before making this post but their response was that I could withdraw and then apply for an additional year with evidence, but I do not want to withdraw beforehand to know the potential outcome of my application as it may affect the continuation of my studies.

Hi there,

Is there any extenuating circumstances that prevented you from passing the course? You don't need to withdraw, if you have to retake the year then you'd apply with us as normal and state the year on the application.

I have extenuating circumstances that would affect my ability to perform well the following year, but my current situation is that I was given compensation for a module if I didn't want to take an exam, as I had achieved above the pass mark for the year but below the pass mark for that specific module, with this compensation enabling me to enter the following year. I rejected the compensation to take the exam, but even if I don't attend the exam, I will still be given compensation. Does this mean I am ineligible for the additional year if I were to withdraw before this exam, as I would be able to pass anyway?

Hi Kattak,

If you need to take an additional year of study and you withdraw this won't affect your eligibility for future funding - this will be based on previous study and if you have Compelling Personal Reasons evidence for why you couldn't progress from a previous year of study we can take this into account and potentially award an additional year of funding.
