The Student Room Group

Is it likely that another sixth form would allow me to retake year 13 for 2 subjects?

Would they receive funding/would I have to pay? I want to retake maths and to complete physics. I studied AS physics in year 12 but then dropped it despite doing well as I felt that it wasn’t a very necessary subject since I planned on doing cs and physics was consuming a majority of my revision time, but I now feel more drawn to an engineering degree

Another question, would they have to contact my previous school? Whether they would or not won’t stop me from pursuing maths and physics, it’s just that my former hoy did not like me at all as a student so I feel slightly embarrassed 😭

I’ll be contacting sixth forms and colleges to see if anyone will take me once I receive my results, I just want some hindsight

Hey @wowcher

If you’re under 19, retaking Maths and completing Physics at a sixth form or college is typically funded by the government, so you wouldn’t have to pay. If you’re 19 or older, there may be fees, but financial aid options like bursaries or Advanced Learner Loans could help. When you apply, the new institution may contact your previous school for academic records, including your AS Physics grade, but don’t worry too much about past experiences with staff—they’re unlikely to impact your new opportunities. Once you receive your results, contact sixth forms or colleges to express your renewed interest in pursuing engineering, emphasizing your commitment to retaking these subjects.

Thank You
