Clearing degree help please

So Ive definitely missed my firm of Computer Science at Southampton but my insurance is Data Science with Industry at Bristol which Ill likely get. However Bristol is 3 hours from home and expensive and I dont have accom guarantee. Im part of a widening participation program for Southampton where I get a grand, its close to home, and very affordable. I was thinking is it worth going into clearing for their economics and data science degree (which i think id be interested in) at the much lower ranked southampton or stay at bristol?

I'm not sure that the comparisons you're making above are necessarily accurate. You mention that at Bristol you "dont have accom guarantee", which is likely because it's not your firm. Are you sure that you would have that guarantee if you applied to Southampton for the different course via Clearing? Have you checked?

The same applies to your "where I get a grand" comment about Southampton. Are you sure you still get that if you apply via Clearing? Again, have you checked?

Let's ignore those two features of Southampton, as I suspect that they won't apply to those applying via Clearing. This leaves us with the following (according to what you've written above):

1. Bristol is higher ranked.
2. Southampton is closer to home.
3. Southampton is cheaper.

Presumably you'd prefer to study Data Science with Industry over Economics and Data Science, as you made the former your insurance choice. Or are they know equally interesting in your mind?
You have asked versions of this question several times recently - and received replies.

Southampton is still a very reputable university, rankings really are not meaningful in any way.

I would probably make sure you qualify for a clearing offer at Soton before you formally give up your place.

Also best of luck tomorrow, hopefully you get into your firm & this was just sensible planning for all eventualities.

Additionally as it’s the same university as your firm choice now, id actually be tempted to call them up in advance and ask if they can consider you for this program if your unsuccessful for your firm choice. As they are already firmed i think you might be eligible to “swap courses“ rather than enter clearing.
( @PQ @Admit-One , am i right im thinking if they want to stay at their firm for a different course it’s probably better to try and not enter clearing and discuss with them on the phone directly?)

It might be worth a call today but they might not be willing to discuss their application over the phone so following up by email with a list of courses they would like to be considered for if they can’t be accepted onto their original course choice would normally be better.
It’s quite late though. Most universities will have sent decisions to UCAS already so it might be too late but no harm in asking!
