new school and beginning of year 12

So I'm starting yr 12 in 2 weeks and I'm going to a new school. I'm rlly rlly nervous and I want to make the most of these two years.
I've already chosen my subs and I want to put myself out there in extra-curriculars to have a good social life and all. I hope I'll be able to make a few friends.
I'm just so anxious 😭

Hi,

Feeling anxious when starting a new school is completely normal! But, there will be many more students in the same position all feeling nervous or anxious so you will not be on your own.

By joining extra-curriculars, you will meet like-minded people and so that's a sure way of making friends so that's a brilliant thing to do! As well as this, you will make friends in lessons with the people you sit with, in your form, in your frees, during lunch etc. so there are plenty of opportunities so please don't worry!

I'm sure you will absolutely make the most of your time over the next 2 years, take and use all the opportunities that you get and use all the support the school offers for your subjects and applying to anything be that jobs, apprenticeships, university etc.

Try not to worry too much (easier said than done I know) but try to put these feelings out of your mind and enjoy your summer!

Hope this helps and reassures, Ella - Lancaster University Student Ambassador

Hey friend!
I was in your shoes last year. I completely get how you feel.
Sixth form is a time for so much growth and development! You have more freedom and more chance to explore what you want out of life. Just know that, while yes you will be nervous, you will quickly settle in and things will feel smoother!
Just based off of personal experience (so ignore this if you want) do expect it to take a little longer than you may have thought to make friends if you aren’t a super outgoing person, as friend groups have already been formed. That’s not to say you won’t make friends -you probably will make some amazing ones- it just may take a little longer. If you can, definitely do try and approach some people who you want to be friends with.
Joining clubs will definitely help though! My school didn’t have any for sixth formers so I wish I had that opportunity.
The main thing I would say is not to put too much pressure on yourself: especially not at the very start. Trust that things will pan out naturally. You’ve got this!
Good luck: I hope you have an amazing 2 years!!!

Starting yr 12 this year too! It's normal to feel such nerves, so just be yourself, be open to make new friends and talking with peers xx Also join socs or clubs to mingle with people that have similar interests to make friends there too! Best of luck for results day next week if you haven't already received them xx
