Should I crash Higher Business? And Is it tricky?

Hi, I'm going into S5 but I was thinking about a career in accounting lately but I have never taken business management ever.

I'm currently going into Higher Administration IT, Higher Maths and Higher English, (as well as H graphic communication and ADVH art but I don't know if that helps at all). Right now I would like to know what Higher business is like if anyone has crashed it before because I'm planning to crash it in S6.

- How difficult is it from a scale of 1-10, 1 very easy - 10 impossible to learn
- how much NAT5 business knowledge used in Higher
- and what Business assignments look like (I have no idea what it is)
- What do you do in that subject? (I.e do you write essays, research or just memorise a lot, what kind of things should I expect from this subject lol)
- What would you recommend people crashing Higher Business to do beforehand or during the course to make it more manageable if it is very difficult?

I don't know if my school will offer Accounting at Higher next year but is that something that I'll need because I'm worried I might find myself unable to go into this career path if I am missing necessary subjects lol.

Also if Higher business isn't available in S6 (worst case scenario), is there anything you can do abt that or is that the-be-all-and-end-all lol
Happy to receive any advice and opinions

Hi,
If you check university entry requirements, most accounting courses only require Maths and English; Business is good to have but Accounting is a lot more focus on the numbers. Higher Accounting is definitely helpful, but if your school doesn’t offer it it shouldn’t be too much of a problem. My advice would be to try find work experience in an accounting firm so you can see if it’s the right job for you. I’ve heard that Business can be easy, but there’s a lot of content and memorisation to it (I haven’t taken it, but I took n5 accounting) anyways good luck with whatever you pursue!

I crashed higher business last year (did take it in 3rd year tho)
In my opinion it's fairly easy if you are good at memorisation, and learn how to structure your answers, although i’d say its a fair amount of content you need to memorise.
Also, if your school isn’t running higher accounting, you could find out if they offer consortium, which is going to a nearby school that does offer the subject.

I've done both N5 and Higher business and over the past 2 years (2023 and 2024 exam diets) and got As for both despite the higher exam being pretty questionable this year, i'm also looking to go into a career in accounting. In my opinion, whilst a lot of knowledge carries over from N5 to higher it is definitely possible to do well (the only crasher in my higher business class this year ended up getting an A). The main thing with business is remembering the stuff and being able to apply it to the command word in the exam, my key tip is to keep doing past papers and jog your memory using flashcards. Have you done N5 accounting?, as if you have it will really help with the finance part of higher business as for the most part it is the theory questions from accounting (I did both N5 and Higher and got As in both), my business and accounts teacher actually told me to keep my mouth shut when she was asking the class questions during the finance section as I already knew it all. In the assignment, you need to write up on one of the sections of the course (Understanding business, operations, marketing, HR or finance) and how they use that to be successful, I would recommend doing marketing if you do decide to crash it as there is plenty to talk about for marketing, the assignment is worth 25% of your grade (30/120). I would say business is about 4/10 difficulty however I am very interested in it so I might find have found it easier than others. So if you feel confident enough to crash it then go for it.
