They probably employ approximately 10,000 people over the Christmas period ( each store will vary on how many people that they take on so the numbers could be higher than what I said). Think how many stores there are in the UK - very large stores will take a average of 30 plus temporary staff each while small shops might take 6 each as not every shop open 7 days a week.

The store I work in took on about 80 temporary staff last Christmas period to cover the 7 days we are open.
