Help with "plummy" accent !!!

I'll be graduating this year, by May & will have few months to do something that I've always wanted to.

Being a huge fan of "plummy" accent, I was just wondering, as IF there's anyone around who can or possibly know someone who can help me teaching such accent.

Such accent are often spoken in Home counties around the city of London. People living around there could be of some help.

May be some sort of elocution lesson, which specialises in "plummy" accent can be an option. I'm quite willing to travel whatever distance it takes. I'm rather gagging to get myself such an accent.

Any help, will undoubtedly be GREATLY APPRECIATED.

PS to women: In return of your help presently, please don't have any high expectation in return, as I'm STILL NOT into Sadomasochism.

don't like liz hurley's but i do like hugh grant's. can't think of any famous female plummy accents. i suppose there's bridget jones, but that's just so amusingly un-genuine!

Sorry - to get to your question, i think the best thing would be just to hang around and talk a lot to people with that kind of accent (or if you live in america or something, listen to films etc).
I had a scary uncouth yorkshire accent until i went to a grammar school...

Seems both of us are in the same boat then (let just hope the boat doesn't end-up loosing control :wink:

Guess, it may not be quite sensible (with NO offence to you, I must say) to simply assume as whether it would suit on you or not, as it's always worth giving it a go.

Accent isn't the only thing that would make it suit on you as your voice & rhythm of speech will be of equal importance.

Renee Zellweger didn't quite have "plummy" accent, in her Bridge Jones movies. Just a normal British accent, she had her training in. She in fact, had personal coach to help her by being around her, in order to teach her British accent for Bridget Jones movie & she had to take this training AGAIN for her 2nd Bridge Jones movie, as she was loosing good grip of British accent after her 1st Bridge Jones movie.

But then again, she was affulent enought to afford these, while in our case, being a student our rather dismal bank a/c hardly allows us to do something similar. Winning a jackpot, should surely do the trick, I should imagine.

Yes, if i were you I would just watch lots and lots of Hugh Grant films. Even I am sounding a bit like him :eek:

If you are going to a uni like Cambridge or Oxford I'm sure you'll pick it up without even trying.

Some people don't have to sit around pining for these accents, nor even have to be taught to speak in such a way, they have them naturally.

Well, a well spoken accent is quite simply an equisite treat for the ears and, for me at least, are really quite an attractive feature.

I disagree - Hugh is a very smooth talker.
Only in Notting Hill and Four Weddings does he do that (they just happen to be his most famous), but not in About A Boy, Bridget Jones, Two Weeks Notice, and ALL of his earlier films (except Sense and Sensibility).

The only flaw with Hugh is that he smokes. Eeuuugh.

I'll be graduating from Leicester's De Montfort University, I'm afraid (not much of an hope of gaining such a posh accent from such a non-posh university, I would say :frown:
