Realistic Uni Choices? - HELP

Hi, I'm currently completing my A-levels in Maths, Business and Computer Science and am predicted BBB atm but I am hoping to improve this.

I achieved quite poor GCSE grades which were - 765555554 (7 in Maths and 5's in English Language and Literature)

I want to apply to these unis for these courses

King's - Electronic Engineering - AAA (however may be eligible for contextual offer of ABB due to postcode)
Loughborough - Electrical and Electronic Engineering - ABB
York - Electronic Engineering with Music Technology Systems - ABB
Newcastle - Electrical and Electronic Engineering - ABB (however eligible for contextual offer with PARTNERS scheme of BCC but only if I make it my firm i believe)
Kent/Northumbria/Essex - Electrical and Electronic Engineering - BBB-BCC (I'm undecided which I want to choose as my backup)

I just want to know if I'm being realistic and if I actually have a chance of getting into mainly the above first 4 unis and if I even have a chance of getting into Kings.

I would love to go to King's however I don't want to feel like I have wasted an option. If I didn't choose King's I would've chose Liverpool or Cardiff.

Thanks

Hi Reshma :wavey:

I think it is worth looking at Clearing today https://www.ucas.com/clearing-launch

Take a look at the universities you are interested in and check if the courses are in Clearing this year and what the grade requirements are. If they are lower now than in the prospectus/ advertised on website then universities may have flexibility/ leniency.

Grade requirements are set for a reason - they are a benchmark ie. 'for you to thrive on the course this is the level you need to be able to meet', so being realistic as to whether you can meet the AAA/ABB is serving.

Worth checking in with your teachers and discussing a path forward. This will not be their first rodeo and they are likely to be able to advise you on this.

It sounds like you have done your research i.e eligibility for contextual offers - once this clearing window is closed its probably worth contacting universities and exploring the likelihood of being eligible for these offers.

Good luck

Hey @Reshma 69,

I definitely think this could be achievable especially if the offer changes to ABB. I agree with She-Ra and would definitely check on the clearing options for this as this could definitely help you make a decision.

I would recommend speaking with your different teachers and seeing what support they can give you to help boost your grades. I would maybe try and choose one of your a-levels that you think you would be able to boost to an A rather than trying for them all because that could be a bit too much and lead you to burn out.

I think the mocks you will most likely do ahead of your a-level exams may be able to give you an idea of what you could achieve in the real ones.

Good luck for next year!

Yes I am

Yes I am

With a year to go then I don't think it's unrealistic to get into any of the mentioned universities. Have you been focusing on revision this summer for next year? 🙂

You are doing the right thing by not putting all your applicants in one basket and spreading them across different unis. I would maybe suggest looking at putting in 2 'back up' unis to cover you a little bit more but other than than I would say you've got a solid plan! 🙂
