Opening a Bank Account + Visa application with short term sublet

Hi everyone,

I’m moving to London soon with a student visa and will be staying in the UK for 24 months. I’ve arranged a short-term sublet for the first three months, but I don’t have a formal sublet contract. There’s a possibility that I might extend my stay at this specific sublet after the initial three months.

I know I need to provide an address to open a bank account, but since I don’t have a formal tenancy agreement, I’m not sure how to proceed. Has anyone been in a similar situation? How did you manage to open a bank account without a formal contract?

Additionally, could the lack of a contract cause any issues with my visa application or other bureaucratic processes?

Thanks in advance for any advice or experiences you can share!

Hi, I can't help too much with your question but I wanted to extend an offer of accommodation. I have a single person studio tenancy takeover for students until mid July, but the only catch is rent must be paid in full rather than installments (eg. a guarantor may need to pay on your behalf). It's in Ladywell/Lewisham. If this is something which you can do and you're interested, let me know. I know this may not match your requirements, so no worries if not.
