Southampton Accommodation Cancellation

Could you please let me know the process for canceling university accommodation? I accepted an offer roughly 2-3 weeks ago, but due to a change in my family's financial situation, we've decided that the university hall isn't a suitable option anymore. Is it possible to withdraw or pay a fine to break the contract? The offer I received was for the Glen Eyre Quiet Enhanced Plus with a shared bathroom. Is there anyone who've had experience with the school before? Thank you for your help.

Hi there :hello:

If you have accepted a University place elsewhere and cancelled your University place at the university of southampton, then you should be absolutely fine to cancel your accommodation.

Just email / phone the accommodation hotline and let them know. They can simply just cancel the contract.

However, if you are still going to Southampton, you can try to claim that you cannot financially afford your accommodation offer and see what they say. You may be required to prove you can't afford the accommodation. They may look at offering you a cheaper type of accommodation but if they can't then you should be able to cancel.

If they require proof, you can give them evidence of your maintenance loan amount from Student Finance England to show it won't cover the cost of accommodation.

Hope this helps,
Cheese

P.S. Always good to check with the accommodation team directly as they may have changed their procedures since I was working there!

Hi thank you so much for your reply! I have emailed directly the accommodation team and waiting for their feedback right now. I'm quite worry as per the contract, I can only cancel if i require special medical treatment, fail my visa or unable to enroll the programme. I have emailed them 4 weeks before the check-in date so I hope that they can cancel it without too much difficulty.

No worries

Yeah see what they say, it might be a bit more difficult to cancel in these circumstances if you are still accepted onto the course at Southampton.
