Foundation year then change uni

I have to do a foundation year but some places offer only one ( the actual foundation year) or foundation year and their actual course together.. the first option seems more possible to transfer to other unis afterwards, but with the second can I still transfer? I know you can transfer universities but with this is there any legal way they can say I can't after completing my foundation

That mainly talked about transfers in general, I really just want to know if I can legally apply to a foundation + 3 year course yet only do the foundation part and move on, I am afraid that asking them directly in a clearing call will end in me not getting a place..

Yeah you definitely can, it's just part of the normal Uni transfer process :yy:

Get onto the foundation year + course programme, then after 1 year you should be able to transfer to another uni
Hey there 🙂 You won't usually be able change but this depends on the uni and where you leave as it doesn't hold a qualification and each university runs their differently. If you did 1 term at the current uni though and then moved this would be easier. If you are unsure about what to do and where to go you could look into doing an access course at college for a year and then going directly onto the degree that way and this qualification is widely accepted.

Hey @annadoesntknow 👋

Honestly, this depends on the specific university - some allow it, some do not.

Is there a reason that you are thinking of transferring to another university after completing your foundation year? Why not consider doing a foundation year at a university that you are interested in so that you won't need to transfer?

You might be able to find out more about whether you'd be able to transfer by googling the name of the university you're thinking of applying to and adding 'foundation year transfer' afterwards.

the reason I thought so was because when I was previously looking at entry requirements I saw some unis say they accept a foundation course at another uni as long as it is relevant, and then apparently you also get a score for them, I'm confident I can score highly. I am thinking more about it now because it might increase my chances if the uni I did a foundation course in ranked higher, it is just that they all have the foundation + course.

Not everyone will accept them so you will need to look at where you want to transfer to and check they do but there is no guarntee they will have places. Doing it at a high ranked uni wouldn't make much, if any difference as the score will be the score 🙂

You also use up an extra year of funding doing the FY, is there no uni which you think you'd enjoy where you would be able to get onto the degree without the FY? What courses are you looking at?

Unfortunately my A level results are too bad but I think I understand it pretty well now thank you.

It would be best to do the foundation year in the uni you want to join after
