A-level maths remark

I know a-level maths grades are quite fixed, but I got 197 and I’m 8 marks from the A boundary and 30 marks from the lower boundary, basically saying my grade shouldn’t go down (hopefully). Is it worth getting a review of marking? Do you think more marks could be found across the 4 papers (1,2, stats and mech) or do I leave it. I want to go into dentistry and take a gap year so kind of need that A haha. I know there’s a fair chance my grade won’t increase and this could be a costly process. If anyone has had marks move up in maths, please tell me by how much. Thank you!

You can request your paper back at no cost, which sounds like it would be worth doing so you and your teacher can review the papers and see if it would be worth going through the process. Do you have a university place at stake?

yeah, dentistry, do you think I have a chance of getting it moved up? Is it something you’ve seen before? I know I’m a lot of marks away

I would say talk to your teacher and definitely consider at least getting the papers back so you can see if it's worth proceeding to the review of marking.

Same but do u think realistically they’ll find 8 marks ? Has anyone seen anything like this before where it’s gone up by a chunk after remarking maths?

To be perfectly honest with you, it's highly unlikely. But it's always worth getting the paper back to check, you never know

What about being 8 marks off for bio where there’s an essay involved?

There's a chance - a slim one, mind. Hope for the best, but prepare for the worst.

I have an examiner teaching at my school so I’ll ask for him to review it, if he thinks it’s possible that 8 marks exist somewhere in all 3 papers I think it’s worth a go!

When’s the deadline to send off a remark?

Hey so im in a similar situation, im 9 marks from the boundary and decided to do a priority remark which I should get back in a couple of days. In my position those 9 marks stopped me from being in my dream uni this year and so any slight chance to get in I am taking. I'd remark if i was 12 marks away.

Also I've heard some crazy remark stories, a friend's sister gained 14 marks in psychology one year because an examiner read '14' as '4' and entered it on their system wrong, as well as another couple errors. Do what you think is right for you 🙂
