Non-guaranteed accom at uni of Bristol - first year

Hi! I just got my results today and have missed my firm. As Bristol is my insurance (and I've gotten in) it means that I'm not guaranteed accommodation provided by the uni... I'm currently looking privately but fear I might have missed out. If anyone has any advice or are in a similar position to me, I'd love to discuss things! Honestly have no idea what I'm doing rn, as a first year I would quite like to be with other first years... but idk if that is still an option for me?
Thanks!

Try calling up the accomodation staff, they may have a waiting list in place. Come back here to update us and we can work through this together :hugs:

Ive called them up, can't apply for uni accom yet because they haven't updated their system. Have started applying for private but I'm not guaranteed to be sharing with first years, which would be more ideal... Not sure how to go about ensuring that ! Thanks

Which course is this?

For now, carry on applying to private but don't sign a contract yet. Call the university up again once the systems have updated.

Your main priority is getting a place to live right now, let's take it a step at a time. You have time

You won't be missing out a lot even if you are in private accommodation, I can assure you that you are not alone in this and it's very much possible to still be up to date with the rest of the year and enjoy!

It's a waiting game for now, are you able to call the university up to check when the systems will be updated?

Hey! Congrats on getting into Bristol. We still have rooms available at Zinc Quarter in Bristol and have students in all years live here 🙂 Although privately owned we mirror student halls in the sense of having all bills included, staff on site 24/7, resident events, social spaces etc. so if you're still searching make sure to take a look! 🙂 Zinc Quarter Bristol | Studio & En-Suites | | Student Roost

If you have any questions let me know, i'd be happy to help!

Speak to accommodation services, su accommodation help & then often times universities have places to help students find rooms.

Some students will have missed offers or decided to change uni and similarly some current students will drop out and they will all be looking for replacement tenants.

Am in the same situation here with a place at Bristol for maths as my insurance. I applied through the university accommodation portal today and this said I would hear by 20th August. But worried I won’t get anything. Like you, I want to live with other first years so not sure how to start with private application!

Hey there, if you are looking at securing private accommodation I would suggest doing an online search for accommodation of interest in the area you wish to live in, and then you can make applications directly with the provider via their website, most of which will accept you straight away! For instance, with Zinc Quarter in Bristol, you can book directly online with Student Roost and have your room ready to go for Sept once your application has been completed! If you need any support or any further information on Zinc Quarter - i'd be more than happy to help!

i did yes
I’m in the exact situation, getting into Bristol as my insurance. Really don’t want to have to go private, to the point where I think I’d rather try and defer to next year if I don’t get an offer. I’ve submitted my application for uni accommodation on the portal, hoping that will still be fine. I read somewhere that a lot of the issues were caused by the uni accepting too many students during Covid but it’s a lot better now, so still optimistic 🤞

My son has a place in clearing but so far no accommodation offer and desperately looking at private just in case. He's worried about missing out on first year stuff too. Did you go for a private halls type place?

What is Zinc Quarter like for first years? Are there any private halls which have more first years than others. Just reseraching as place through clearing and not thinking will have much luck with Uni accomodation? Any tips at all welcome!

Hey there,
Zinc Quarter is great for students, no matter whether its your first year or last. We host some great events to help you make friends with other residents and there's a communal area and games space where you can relax after a day at uni. Plus, we're in a good location for commuting to campus. You can take a look here!

Has anyone got accommodation from Bristol? Asking for my daughter, she’s in the same situation, but didn’t get any info today.
Same situation for my son. Didn’t hear today. I wonder if they let you know either way or only if you get it?
