I got better grades than I needed for my firm (Durham), should I reject it?

The subjects I take are Accounting (A), Economics (A*) and Computer Science (B)Hi, I just got accepted into my firm university which is durham for the accounting and finance course, the required grades were AAB. I got A*AB as my final results and im getting the computer science (B) remarked since I was 1 mark off an A. Should I still go to durham or should I just go into clearing and find other, more better options. Im currently considering Bristol for accounting and management (AAA or A*AB) and Manchester for Management (accounting and finance) (AAA or A*AB). Would love for some advice since the clearing courses are being taken fast.

I think the fundamental question is: are you happy with your firm choice? What's your gut feeling?

Hi @stephlala

Congratulations on such amazing results! And your place at Durham!

You can call other universities through Clearing if you want to see if there's places available, but you'll need to self-release into Clearing to change your uni.

As you've got the results you needed, it really is dependent on where you would like to go. Try weighing up the courses first, then possibly consider wider university life and location if you can't decide. There isn't necessarily a wrong decision here, it's just about where you would like to go.

I hope this helps and you get sorted. 🙂

Hey @stephlala 👋

Firstly, wow! Congratulations on your results, you should be so proud of yourself... it seems as though all of the hard work paid off!

It's great that you obtained higher grades than you expected. This doesn't necessarily mean that you should change universities though if you like the look of the course offered by Durham and the university in general.

However, there's nothing wrong with weighing up your options and calling other universities through their clearing hotline number to see what's available.

Make sure that you don't just choose a university simply because you gained higher grades, however. Ensure that you check out the location, course modules, clubs/societies, student support, etc before rushing into a decision.

Best of luck - I hope you find the university that's right for you... whether it's Durham or another 😀

Well im kinda debating it right now, durham does offer very good education and has a very good employer reputation. But I've heard alot of about the issues of classism and racism, and yes I know that every uni has this issue but as someone who is a poc that is from the south, Im unsure of how bad it might be up north. Should I really just go ahead and dismiss my uncertainties?

As with most English universities, Durham will be majority white, however this does not mean that racism will be prevalent. While unfortunately racist and classist incidents may occur, they will not be frequent occurrences and you will likely have heard about them because these incidents do attract a lot of attention online. If you visited the university during your application process, did you feel safe and welcome there?

Hi @stephlala

Congratulations on your amazing grades and receiving a place at Durham University.

If you would like to explore other options for university, definitely call the universities you are interested in and see what they may have to offer. There is a lot to consider when rejecting an offer so I would say to make sure you have a somewhat secure plan before you do so.

Wishing you all the best for your future and congratulations again )

Both sound really good, just depends what you want in a university. Bristol probably has the better student life but it’s really up to you what you prefer. Let me know what you choose

Hi, a massive congratulations on your results!
As for Durham it is a largely white inhabitants but this does not necessarily mean racism. I’m sure that wherever you go you will be made to feel welcome and supported. It’s not so much the north, but depends on the city so Bristol and Manchester are more diverse
Hope this brings you clarity

Hi and thank you! to be completely honest with you I didn't do much revision for my a level other than past exam questions that I struggled with. You should really be focusing on the methods to solve of each question type, if you can ace that, then getting an A will be easy, since its what I did with just a few hours of revision.

I'd suggest looking for workbooks/textbooks based on ur exam board since those can help with theory content as well, which you can use to help with the 25 mark essays. I didn't really do much revision for the essay which I kinda regret since I got the lowest marks in those, except the investors ratios ones since they aren't too bad.

Yea, I decided on durham, although I may feel out of place sometimes, it shouldn't really be an issue, thanks though!

I decided on durham. I couldn't really get Bristol in the end since the course I applied to got full by the time I wanted to apply. Hoping for the best at Durham and thank you!
