No Idea

First congrats on your results today everyone. I hope you got what you wanted.

I am in the dilemma I predicted. I missed 7months of my first A-level year due to being assaulted and being in hospital with a brain bleed. I recovered.

I just got my results: English D, History D, English Lit D. As you can imagine, with those grades I have no offers for Law degree places and have been told the best I can hope for is a place on an HND Law studies **MAYBE** but which I most definitely don’t want anyway.

I have no idea what to do - it feels like my assailant just keeps winning.
First congrats on your results today everyone. I hope you got what you wanted.

So sorry to hear about your situation.
Many universities offer a Law Degree with a foundation year, an IFY is a level 4 four year Undergraduate degree so you'll still qualify.
Here is a link to the course we offer, you can also ring our team on 0191 515 3000 should you wish to speak to someone about this option and your options generally.

Hey @DGG1,

First off, I'm incredibly sorry to hear about your struggles following your assault. No one deserves to go through anything like that, and it's a real testament to your dedication and drive that you were able to complete your A-Levels nonetheless.

Your grades are the equivalent of 72 UCAS points, which might make you eligible for some Law Foundation Year courses if that's a route you'd consider pursuing. It could be worthwhile calling some Clearing hotlines and explaining your unique circumstances in case there's any room for flexibility with entry requirements.

If you'd prefer not to go down that path, have you considered re-sitting A-Levels at a later date?

Best of luck,
Eve (Kingston Rep).

Hi there, so sorry to hear about your situation too, but as the Sunderland rep mentioned, many universities offer Law with a foundation year where you can gain the skills your A Levels would otherwise have given you and prepare for the full degree course. @TheUniofLawStaff might be able to help too? Good luck with your future plans and I'm sure you'll get to where you want to be, well done getting this far!

getting lower grades than you thought can be so hard, but it definitely isn't over and you do have options! 🙂

We do offer a Law course, and one with a FY here if it's of any interested. Even if it isn't, you can call our clearing team who will be able to give you some advice and help point you in the right direction to meet your goals, even if it isn't with us! 🙂

Best of luck with everything though but if you do have anything else you want to know, we are all here! 🙂

Thanks for replying so soon and being kind. I’m probably having a bit of a negative day so I’ll have to deal with things like contacting Uni’s another time - maybe next week.
It’s the four year thing that is my sticking point - much the same as delaying by a year and retaking my A-Levels - that’s my assailant’s victory - he gets a whole year of my life on top of everything else I was put through.
But I’ll have a think when I’m feeling a bit more positive.
Thanks

Hi,

First of all, we are extremely sorry to hear about your situation and hope your recovery was smooth and you are well.

In terms of the Law courses, it may be worth looking into foundation years which are catered for people that received lower grades but are very set on what they have applied for. In addition, you could call universities (such as ours) to find out if they could find a place for you! Most contact details will be found through a google search or on the university websites.

We will keep our fingers crossed for you!

Good Luck,
NU London

I hope you can

I’d ideally like to find a three year solution - otherwise it feels like I’m gifting my assailant a whole year of my life.
Once I’m feeling a bit less negative, maybe after the weekend, I’ll have a go at finding a solution.
Thanks
D
Hey @DGG1, I am sorry to hear of your circumstances, and like everyone has said, you should be proud that you have managed to get to this far considering everything.

You have time to make the calls, so think about your options and call when you are ready.

You can call on our Clearing hotline 08083010148 (UK) or WhatsApp if you prefer (sometimes a bit easier); let us know these results and your Clearing ID, and someone will be able to explain the options to you.

You can find out more about our University on our Website, so you can get a feel for it, and we also have a few events tomorrow, where you can find out a bit more: Clearing Website.

On foundation years; you could look at this as a chance to make the most of all the extra curricular stuff that will build up your CV; so join debating/mooting competitions, be part of the law society, meet with law firms, take up pro bono opportunities- you'll be way ahead of others by the time you even begin in year 1!

Good luck with your decisions. Just a note that when it comes to a career in law, there are so many different journeys to getting there and overcoming everything you have so far will make you more resilient for the future even if it doesn't feel like it right now.

Sometimes things don't go as planned, but I have some good news! Give us a call on 03455 76 06 06. Our Admissions Team can talk you through applying to our 3 year degree. Yes 3 years. Not 4. Here's a bit more info on our law degrees too 👉 https://www.southwales.ac.uk/courses/llb-hons-law/ -Samantha

Samantha!
I did what you said.
I just got offered a three year LLB place at USW based on my DDD A-levels but also based on my circumstances and my personal statement and good GCSEs (99988777) which I thought weren’t worth anything in Uni applications.

You may just have saved my brain from exploding

Thank you thank you thank you

Wales - that’s turn right before Bristol, right?! 🙏

Hi there!

Firstly, I am sorry about your struggles during your A-levels. This can be hard but you still have options even if you got the grades you didn't want.

I think that ringing clearing is your best bet. You will be able to get advice and see what your options are. Here is the link to our clearing page: Clearing 2024 is Now Open | Apply Here - UCLan 😊

I am sure you will find the right route to go down!

Hope this helps,😊

This is amazing news, I'm so pleased for you!

Haha, well it depends where you're coming from but yes as a general rule of thumb, Wales is near Bristol.
