Lower than expected. What to do

Year 12 Further Maths student. In my school we do maths in year 12, further in year 13. Got my a level maths result today. After A* all through the year, ive ended up with an A. Applying to russell group unis asking A*AA where the star is preferably in maths. This also requires taking the TMUA and STEP exams which im also stressing about. Im also not even sure of a degree yet. Was maths up until earlier this year. now thinking about engineering in some form also

Should i resit my maths? Anyone else been in my situation?
It's totally understandable to feel uncertain, especially with so many factors to consider. First off, congratulations on getting an A in Maths! That's still a fantastic achievement, even if it wasn’t what you expected.

As for your situation, you're definitely not alone—many students grapple with similar decisions.
Mathematics is deeply integrated into engineering degrees, you'll also have the chance to apply your maths skills to practical situations and assessments.

It might also be helpful to speak with your teachers or a careers advisor to get their perspective. They can offer tailored advice based on your specific situation and aspirations.

Ultimately, the decision should come down to what you feel most passionate about and how you handle the added stress of a resit. If engineering excites you, maybe focus on that path and consider what that degree could lead you to in your future careers. Whatever you decide, remember that there are multiple paths to success, and this is just one step in your journey!

Hi, this is an interesting question if you're in England then you have to resit the whole of maths and the most recent grade will count, so that situation is not without risk. But also covering the FM content will definitely reinforce the maths content.

An A is a very good grade though what options do you have if you decided not to resit and kept the A?
