Help with understanding a level resits

Hi I'm 18 just got my results and I'm thinking of resitting my a levels and redoing the full year 13 and my college again. Just wondering for an extra bit of advice and info how do I apply to resit my a levels and redo my course with college, how much will it cost to redo it with college, what should I do with ucas and universities that I have applied for and what happens with my student finance that ive already applied for. Also is there any support I can receive to help cover the costs of the resits.

Please can I ask what your results were and what offers you had? This will help us to best advise you!

DDE and I have a guaranteed spot with my insurance but I still considering the possibilities of resitting them.

I think ultimately it depends on how you feel about the whole situation. Would you rather try to improve your grades and go through all of year 13 again (including the application process!) or do you feel ready to move on to do your degree?

Could I ask which subject and university you have your insurance place with?

So do you know if you would rather try to improve your grades and go through all of year 13 again (including the application process!) or do you feel ready to move on to do your degree?

If I can put the question slightly differently, what's changed in your thinking from when you applied to Edge Hill and selected it as an insurance choice, to when you collected your results?

I decided that I'm going to do the degree with edge hill and I'm going to focus and put my head down completely while I'm there because I feel like it's a better opportunity. I'm going to aim to get a first class honours and do my masters in marketing aswell.

Also if I feel like doing so in the future, I'll apply as a mature student and resit my a levels when I think the time is right.

Amazing, congrats on going to uni this year!

Honestly, once you have a good degree grade your A Levels won't matter nearly so much anymore so you will not need to resit them.

Just a personal question to you have you completed your degree and if you have what was your experience with jobs asking about your education

I finished my law degree in 2021 and am now a trainee solicitor. I'm expecting to qualify in 2026!

Hi @Samil456

For reapplying to college, you would need to contact the colleges that you want to attend or if it is your current college, speak to someone on the admissions team and ask about being placed back in year 13. If you do decide that you would like to repeat the year, then you would have to close your UCAS application and amend your student finance profile to say that you will not be attending university for this academic year.

If you plan to only resit without repeating any courses, the prices will vary depending on exam board and college.

Good Luck,

Hi! I possibly want to go into law after doing a history degree. However I got BDD in my alevels and I’m considering retaking, however I got a place at Sussex Uni with the grades I have now, so I was wondering whether it was worth it to get higher grades as working in law seems competitive. Or in your experience do they not really care about alevels if you get a first in your degree? Thanks

If you do well in your degree then you're right in that firms will care more about that. However, before you complete your degree they will look at your A Level grades when you apply for vacation schemes/training contracts and you will be on the back foot compares to other candidates with much higher grades. Some firms also specify minimum A Level requirements so you may be limited in where you are able to apply to with BDD. Ultimately, it's up to you as to whether you want to resit year 13 or move on to uni.
