Advice on repeating A levels

I’ve just received my As grades at BCC, i need AAB next year to apply to qub psychology and i have no science subject. Do i resit the exams i did worst in or get them remarked? Do i also consider repeating the year which i really don’t want to do but instead picking up a science. How likely is it i can bring BCC up to an AAB :frown:

Hi @dhakakkajajaha!

I'm presuming you're based in Northern Ireland if you're looking to study at QUB - I'm from Northern Ireland, so I thought I'd chip in here.

In terms of remarks, if your exam board is CCEA, they should have a full list of the A-Level grade boundaries available on their website, which is worth taking a look at here. Check how close you are to the grade above and decide from there - if you're one or two marks off, it might be worth getting a remark, but if you're several marks off it's best to re-sit the papers you scored lowest in the following year.

I know numerous people who've had lower AS grades than BCC and still managed to turn it around to AAA and above, so it's definitely not impossible. Most of the time, it's developing a consistent study schedule, completing as many past papers as you possibly can and asking for help when you come across content you don't immediately understand.

What subjects do you currently study?

Do QUB require at least one science based subject for psychology?

That's going to be the sticking point more than the AS grades I would say in this case.

it’s not mandatory, if you have an acceptable science the entry requirements are ABB, however if you don’t have a science they’re AAB

Then you're definitely on AAB

As above, it's do-able. Won't be easy but it's definitely achievable. Would suggest applying to QUB and some other unis with lower entry requirements to give you a range of options.
